 With the PlayStation 4 Pro, Sony looks to step into new territory by offering a mid-cycle, higher-power version of its successful PlayStation 4. On paper, the Pro certainly has the credentials to significantly enhance existing and future PlayStation 4 games, but in practice, the results range from good to underwhelming, depending on what game you're playing and what kind of screen you're playing on. Physically, the Pro packs a lot of potential in a relatively efficient space. The additional 1GB of DRAM, the second GPU, and the extra power required to feed it don't add as much bulk as you'd imagine, or from how it looks in pictures

 Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor and Rise of the Tomb Raider, for instance, both look fantastic with the enhanced resolution options selected on a 4K screen. Lighting has a wider color range, and everything looks significantly cleaner, especially around the edges. Particularly with Mordor, everyone who walked by while I was playing stopped to gawk, even though it's now a three-year-old game. On the other end of the spectrum is something like Deus Ex Mankind Divided

 Infamous and Tomb Raider offer a high framerate option, and especially in the case of Tomb Raider, this boosted performance dramatically over the standard PS4 version. Simply put, while the ambiguously named Enhanced Visuals options helped some shaders and reflective surfaces pop a bit more, the difference is negligible compared to the roughly 50 to 100% increase in performance that I witnessed. I hope developers provide the high framerate option on every game going forward. The big issue here, even with the games that leverage the Pro well, is the lack of consistency and clarity regarding what enhancements you're getting from game to game and even from mode to mode

 At the same time, with more support, the PS4 Pro has the raw power to potentially deliver greatly enhanced graphics, but right now, it's just too much of a crap shoot. For everything on the PlayStation 4 Pro, stay right here on IGN.

Therefore, I still can't recommend this system to anyone who already owns a PS4 and with Black Friday coming up, I'd lean towards a PS4 Slim game bundle for $250, because the PS4 Pro hasn't turned out to be $150 better and it doesn't come with a game.

For those who already owns another system and are wondering what all the fuss is about, one of the main reasons I have adopted the Sony ecosystem as my foremost, is because of the exclusive games. Many arguments can be made, but just from my perspective, I very much enjoy all the extra Final Fantasy games Sony gets, those Konami games, all the unique and wacky games from Japan, especially the JRPGs such as Persona and Disgaea, and such gems as Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us

 Although this is a not a full-on PS5-caliber upgrade, you can definitely tell the difference in-game. Old games are coming out with (free)patches to upgrade the visual fidelity for the PS4 Pro, and new games will include PC-like settings to set your visual options. So, let's say the visuals of the PS4 regular version of the game is one option(usually 1080p or lower resolution, or dynamic resolutions - resolutions that change on the fly - at 30 frames per second). With the PS4 Pro, many if not most games will also include options for: 1080p resolution at 60 fps, 4K(or near 4K) resolution at 30 fps, and sometimes an enhanced dynamic option such as varying resolutions with 4K elements and dynamic FPS at up to 60

 In a nutshell, it makes for a more colorful and detailed visual fidelity.  For those who already has a PS4, my questions would be, can you sell it and use that money to buy a PS4 Pro? Do you have the money to buy another $400 system, but are wondering if it's worth it? One thing to realize that when you buy the skit consul is that you only be able to use one extra hard drive at a time and that most games do not play in for 4K so if you have a 4K HD TV at home just remember that you might be paying a checkerboard version of 4K and that is something to consider if you are looking at this consul versus a cheap mini PC for 4K gaming if you’re willing to buy the PC upfront and then piecemeal it afterwords for the rest of the third party parts needed to Get a full 4K experience in AAA gave me on steam.  The PS4 has by far the best selection though for single player options out there so far as Xbox one does not have any real single player games that are dedicated single player and are made for single player game versus god of war is probably the best game out there so far for this consul they have a lot of Japanese RPGs if you’re into that and you’re also have of course the Sony excuses which all get better over age

  The controller is vastly better to the Xbox one in terms of overall compatibility with other hardware that you might all especially if you order back as it will work right out of the box with it however you will need to you use windows 10 in Boot Camp if you really want to use PS now on your mini Mac so take that into consideration before buying this just for the controller if you’re looking for that. Overall the console is probably the best of all of the PlayStation brand except outside all fat PS3 60 gb console that has hardware place backwards compatibility all the way back to the original PlayStation that was shipped out by Sony in this generation that was probably the worst mistake they made and why they only get 4 out of 5 stars.  What a sidenote if you are thinking about PSN and the problems with buying online and downloaded games just remember this is not as fast as downloading a game on steam so remember that because they do not have that ability in this console or in the Xbox one in this generation if you’re going to think about buying games digitally.

 Alternatively, if you need a console, you could pick up a PS4 Pro now to hold you over until you find a PS5, at which point you could transfer all your saves to that, think if you have PlayStation Plus, they're all online, which is awesome, and then sell the PS4 Pro for probably not much less than you bought it for. The PS4 Slim is a weird one because it's cheaper by a decent margin than the PS4 Pro, but it's at the point now where if you're wanting to play all the new games releasing, for most of them you technically can, but the experience is going to be lacking, especially if you're putting in that full 60 dollars these games tend to cost. Imagine paying 60 bucks for Cyberpunk 2077 and getting like 15 frames per second, right? Now if you purely want a system to play games made within the last 10 years, specifically like 2013 to 2019 or so, and the PS4 Slim is a great buy, almost all older games run at a fairly typical 30 FPS, 1080p, sometimes 60 FPS depending on the title, and as mentioned, many of the classics go for 20 bucks pretty regularly. If you're watching this video though, I do have to assume you're desiring higher quality gameplay, at least to a certain extent, whether it be 4K or 60 FPS or even both, and if it is both or 4K for most games, then the PS4 Pro might not be the console for you

 I wouldn't pay much more than up to 300 dollars American, just because only a hundred bucks more, you're getting to the PS5 Digital Edition at 400 dollars, so you can do your own conversions on that and see what you're comfortable with spending. But yeah, once you get above that 300 dollar mark, I would really rather just hold out and try to find a better system.  And while we've seen some newer titles really struggle on the PS4, Cyberpunk 2077 being the best example, the PS4 Pro right now is able to play most games without a hitch. Sure, maybe not at the beautiful 4K60 the PS5 often manages, but still with smooth consistent frame rates without resolution so low you feel like you forgot to put on your glasses. This console might be the perfect in-between machine for those who can't get a PS5 but need a new system right now. So let's take a look at how it holds up, whether it's worth it for owners of the PS4 Pro to even upgrade, and whether or not, for those who need a console, the PS4 Pro could even still be worth buying
