Pro-Ject Phono Box S2

Yeah it's a pretty nice pretty easy to use device and like I said it does sound pretty good. Pretty nice and clear sounds.

However, the phono preamp, I sure do like it. Can't say enough. I feel like it's overpriced though

Finally, value. Do I think this preamp is worth the $400 US it sells for?

It was a solid sounding system and gateway drug into the hobby. After the update I now have a CA CXA81, RSL cg25 & speedwoofer (2.1), the RPi 4, Evo TT and a Project Phono Box S2. I think I’m good for a while as this setup sounds awesome.

3 days in and I'm still trying to get clear instructions on how to use this. The instructions that are provided and the instructions on the website are terrible. Pro-Ject has the lead right now partially because they come in a walnut finish which is wife-approved. They also seem more easily upgradable than the Planar. I know nothing about phono pre-amps and was just going to go with Pro-ject Phono Box S2 since it is relatively small and can be hidden from view.

Sadly it started to develop the same fault as the previous one . Sounded like bubbling and gargling in the background but got worse . This one was sent back as well . Sadly whether justified or not NO..Z .A .M .A get upset when you keep sending faulty stuff back and send you scary emails about doing...

I looked at the uturn pluto 2, schiit mani, pro-ject box s2 and the MoFi....all reviewed well, all at various price points under $350, but the versatility (as long as your MM cart doesn't need more than 4.5mV; which the Olympia is at 4.0mV), with the mono button and a bit of the history sold me. I've read a ton of reviews on phono amps and it always comes down to what gear your running and what your ears like and hears (or thinks it hears). Seem like all solid choices.

I did allot of research on the top preamps for under $200. The choices were between The Pro-ject Phono Box S2, the Schiit Mani and the ifi Zen preamp. I haven’t used that amp but had a Yamaha as301 ($350 new). I thought the phono stage in it was fine with my Debut Carbon Evo but picked up a Project Phono Box S2 ($200) phono stage on a recommendation from a friend that I upgrade the phono stage and it made a huge difference. It was like I bought a whole new amp. The noise floor dropped and I heard fewer pops and clicks in my records.
