The camera is a brick but I really liked it until I tested the zoom lens that comes with it, very soft on the edges especially on closeups. Never saw this in the reviews so maybe this was just a bad apple.

I bought the S1 because it was a good hybrid option at the time for photo and video and have been using an adapter with my EF lenses (I previously had a canon rebel and canon 6D and have 5 EF lenses). However, autofocus is shotty and unpredictable with the adapter and I shoot primarily concerts and live events so I need the AF to be on point. I'm looking to make an upgrade, but am trying to decide if I should invest in the R5 body and sell my S1 or keep the S1 and get a mark iv body. I’ve done my research on the pros and cons and have read the R5 is very comparable to the S1 in terms of video (I know the R5 shoots 8K but for what I'm shooting I really only need 4K).

Panasonic has created a great camera in the S1. The IQ/color science, handling, and durably are fantastic, while the menu system is logical.

You could bet a Panasonic S1 (or S5) + a 24-105mm kit lens for that price. Several firmware updates have made it an amazing video camera, also really good build quality, really good EVF, really good UI really good ergonomics etc.
