 At first when I looked at the S-1 and S1r I Really thought the S-1 would be a better choice. It's more affordable, it's versatile, and if your videographer, it absolutely is. But the more I play with it and realize that the autofocus isn't quite there, the more it makes me want to have the S1r and just really take advantage that high megapixel four shots. Just like this where auto focus is really not playing a part

 Unfortunately though, no continuous autofocus, but as you've probably learned from this video today, that might not be something you're worried about on this camera.  But then you get the Sony A7 3, which of course is quite a bit more affordable in this camera. I'll say this about the Sony It's a much lighter, more compact body, great when you want to be discreet and take it traveling and things like that. The menus are improved, but they're nothing to write home about. but the autofocus and shooting rate on the Sony are absolutely superior

 The EVF is stunning, the image quality is fantastic, and I Love having the 6k photo modes and the multi shop modes. I Think it really comes down to that Dfd Auto Focus I Think that's really what people are gonna have a hard time with. Yeah, it gives us advantages like no banding in our photographs, but that's fairly rare. But when you want to do tracking when you want to do continuous auto focus I Feel like we're now starting to see some of the weaknesses here in this camera

DPReview TV: Panasonic S1 Review

 Panasonic System is good, but I found it still a bit flaky on focus, particularly with video. Most of the time it would lock in flawlessly, but sometimes it would hunt and the image would go in and out of focus. This inconsistency resulted in a success rate that was lower than I'd Like on the positive side, I Found that the S ones advanced tracking feature worked very well. It can recognize people's bodies, faces and eyes and even animals like these chickens

 You can't flip around the display, but considering the weight, the S1 is not going to make an ideal vlogging camera anyway. I Found it great for regular video shooting though thanks to the 5.7 million OLED that's superior to the Nikon Z6, Fuji Film, Xt3, and Canon Eos are. The S1 has both a UHS 2 and XQD card slot that will allow video shooters to use the much faster Xqd slot while photographers can use both at once for a back up

 Again, this beats every other full-frame mirrorless camera out. The S1 excels when it comes to ports - you get headphone microphone full HDMI and the USB type-c and should you need better audio, it has a dedicated hotshoe for an XLR accessory just like the GH 5. As for lenses, Panasonic has three to start with a 70 to 200 millimeter F/4 24 to 105 millimeter F/4 and 50 millimeter F1 point For, thanks to the in-body stabilization that works in concert with stabilized lenses, you're not likely to see too many blurred shots. It can also be used with Panasonic's high resolution photo system that allows you to take giant 96 megapixel images of non moving subjects

 The S-1 uses the entire 24 point two megapixel sensor and down samples to create ultra crisp 4k video at up to 30 frames per second at speeds beyond that up to 4k, 60 frames per second or 180 frames per second at 1080p. It uses an Aps-c crop of the Sir, giving you less in the frame and less up the field. Panasonic will soon offer 4k, 10-bit internal and external video at higher data rates via a firmware update. You'll also be able to get a log Amacker for better color grading
