I used it as my college backpack this past fall and it was great! But if I had to carry files I would recommend the travel backpack because there’s not much room for files if you have a laptop or tablet and the organization panels hamper some storage for bigger things.

All the good things you've read here, but the inability to secure the shoulder straps when not using it as a backpack makes it a snagging hazard par excellence and annoys me every time I pick it up. Stupid design oversight.

The expandable zipper is hidden behind a flap, and even when expanded, the bag has a very streamlined shape. I didn't like the way it sat on my back to start, but the bag has really grown on me. I love the slightly thicker fabric and padding all the way around - my belongings feel protected no matter what compartment they are in, while the bag still feels pretty lightweight. I like also how the laptop compartment is quite minimalist and does not take up a lot of room.
