 Alright, I am stoked, there's nothing wrong with it, so I'm excited about that and alright, so I don't know, just to make this an official unboxing, this wasn't really supposed to be an unboxing as much as I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't broken. Crappy cord, Allen wrenches, aviator, limited warranty, who needs that right, instruction manual, maybe I'll read that, yeah right, alright, it's in tune, so somebody played it.

 I've owned this model. Make sure it's not broken or busted or anything. Here we are, sixth string, sound gear by Ibanez, I think it's actually just a little bit different than the other one I had. This looks a little different

 These Berlini's, this, I love this EQ system on this base, switches, everything, yeah everything looks good just like the other one that I had a couple years ago that I got rid of. Never get rid of your stuff. My Ibanez SR2400 is my favorite 4 string over my fender P and J basses. They're good.  I used to have an SR506 as well which I liked and I'd say once you get into the SR50x you're getting a really really solid bass.

Are Ibanez bass guitars good? I see lots of them are affordable for me in the 300-500 Canadian price range but is it worth it?

What’s the most meh bass you’ve ever owned/played?

I've been playing guitar for a year and need bass mostly for recording purposes. I'm using audio interface and plugins. All my songs so far use standard E tuning. I have only few parts where I need  lower D. So I was planning to buy 4 string base and use drop D tuning for the songs that need the lower D note. Would this be better than buying 5 string bass? I know nothing about the bass pickups so I hope you can help with that.

I’ve been loving my Ibanez SR506, it’s a really great instrument for the price. Great tone in both active and passive mode, really comfortable to play, and I’m a fan of the thin neck profile.

Hello everyone! 

I've been playing the 4 string bass for a few years now (Ibanez GSR200). I took lessons with a great teacher for the first 2 years but then I had to stop them due to being too expensive and had no time because of studies. I've been to 3 different bands that played Thrash/Power metal and Alternative rock. Nowadays  I have plenty of time to practice and I do it every single day.  I have always leaned to the melodic style of playing meaning I love playing a melody over a staccato playstyle.   
Recently I've caught myself listening to some new bands I found that use the 6 string bass and OH MY GOD I'm into a completely different universe. The melodies the solo potential everything just blew my mind.   


I became very interested in the 6-string bass and I researched a little. I found out that it is a completely different instrument compared to the 4-string and that knowing how to play the 4 string doesn't necessarily mean that you can play the 6 one as well. 

My favorite style of music is Melodic Death / Progressive Metal and any kind of metal with groovy bass lines like The Faceless / Beyond Creation / First Fragment and generally any kind of metal band that has melodic lines especially on bass, hence the 6-string excitement! ( I also indulge myself with any kinda funky/groovy/jazzy line that has the aspect of death-like riffs )  


I've really like the whole 6-string idea and I'm really looking forward to purchasing one and hitting it haaaard\~!

So my question to all you bass gurus is: How hard would a complete transition from a 4-string to a 6-string be, is it really worth it, and could you provide me with a few quality 6-string Basses to have a look?

Is there any instrument you have purchased that killed your GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)? 

For me, it was a schecter stilleto studio. It was the first instrument that I bought and felt like it was super high quality, I loved the look and sound, and it just felt good in the hands.

What instrument killed your GAS?

 My Ibanez Sr506 is active and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Whatever gets the job done.

I was wondering why so many people *passionately* dislike active basses. For example Scott from SBL explains NOT to use active basses in his " [THE 7 SECRETS OF A GREAT BASS TONE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuXNqxhtYbY)" video.   
I just don't understand, for me the versatility of an active style bass is amazing. 

You could go sharp and sparkly or go for a more nasely sound. I sometimes even tweak the sound from song to song when playing with my band since it just sounds better. 

Also the batteries don't really need to be changed that often, i can go 3+ months without chaning it, so even that isn't a problem for me.

What's with all the active bass hate?

I got an Ibanez SR506 used for $400 from a friend and am amazed by it every time I pick it up. I know you said you would rather avoid natural finishes but I can’t say enough about Ibanez quality for dollar.

As my musical pallet expands and I’m getting into some gospel/neo-soul music I’ve been thinking about buying a 6 string so I don’t have to retune as often, and I’m also going to work on chords. Looking for recommendations. Something within the range of $200-500. I notice a lot of 6 string basses have a natural wood finish look to them but I’m not a fan so I’d like to avoid that, but I recognize beggars can’t be choosers.

Cheap but not cheap 6 string recommendations?

I have one bass (2017 Rickenbacker 4003s with some customizations) and that’s the only one I ever want as it does everything I want it and need it to do. I’m a playing and working musician but I just don’t feel the need to have any more basses.
