HiFiMan Edition XS

That's where we are with this review of the Hi-Fi Man Edition XS.

After swithing to the r70x after using wearing the Edition XS or LCD-X, they feel like nothing at all, so light and comfortable. Way easier to drive than I expected for having such high impediance, 2 oclock on my Zen Dac 2 is pretty loud... The sound signature is quite diffrent from out Audio Tehnica gear I've listened to in the past.

Quick storytime: I own the HD 600 and I’ve just recently tried the Hifiman Edition XS in-store. Holy. More clear, wider soundstage, deeper bass, more sparkly highs. All these of course are what my ears perceived.

The sound quality is great, definitely an upgrade from HD6XX, but I ended up returning these due to many other issues. They are physically huge. The cups are massive which makes them both comfortable and uncomfortable. The upside is they don't touch my ears at all and there's plenty of space inside....

With a noise gate set at 38db, at some time viewers were still able to hear in game sound leaking from the Edition XS. Those occurence where limited, but can be problematic if you monitor your XLR mic. For streaming/recording, I feel the DT900 Pro X has the edge as it was generally the headphone that was leaking the least.

If you are ready to treat these as fragile pieces of glass that will break with any sort of pressure; you'll love these. I cannot deny that the sound quality is truly excellent for the price; but I highly recommend that you get a headphone stand and pretend that these will break at any sudden physic...

Solid list, especially if you're on a budget. The Edition XS and Elegia are two of the three headphones in my collection, with another screaming good deal -- the HD 6XX -- being the other.
