So either way this hand built pair of headphones is a great buy and a pretty easy choice for a gift for someone who's into audio or a future audio fil...

Don't need anything like noise cancellation. Also do not need a microphone as my setup already has a standalone one. Currently own a pair of Grado Sr80e's, Samsung buds, and KZ pros (basically just a dankpods fan haha).

Just received my SR80e's and I have to say, I'm a little disappointed given the wide praise they've received. Quality sound, comfortable, but bracket that holds the earpiece to the headband broke after light use. Will be looking for a replacement.

Grado sr80e: my first "audiophile" pair of headphones, despite the poor reviews I think the are comfortable and lovely to listen to. Drop Hifimancl he4xx: very articulate. My first planar magnetics and they were a very good price, I use them to same my wav library I use for my D&D campaign.

I was recommended Grado SR80e as my first introduction to audiopile headphones. Of course coming from $30 Sony cans anything would be an upgrade. When I listened to them for the first time I was greeted by warm forward sounding mids with the promised sparkly treble. Plus they have that simple retro aesthetic, though that may be an acquired taste.

* Grado SR80e: used when I actually don't want bass, but want to focus on the vocals and/or the treble, when I want to listen to jazz, but don't want the darkness of the Nighthawks, don't want the bass of the DT 1990, don't want the big soundstage of the K712, yet the HD 600 seem too boring and I want something with more "sparkle"/highs. Used under certain circumstances.
