. I am thinking of replacing my Likebook Mars with a better performing e-reader. The Likebook has been my first reader and I think I can make a step to a better (or more expensive) product. My biggest complaint with the Boyue e-reader is that the software is quite slow and feels "clumsy" when navigating menus (even with A2 mode) or turning pages, and a bit of ghosting.

I have the Likebook Mars and with the latest software and OS updates, it’s pretty good. Plus, it’s one of the cheapest Android ereaders out there.

Buying my first e-reader. Need advice.

An Android ereader will support most or all formats, and it will let you run Firefox, which has Pocket integrated into it. Onyx and Boyue both make good ones. One of the most affordable is the Boyue Likebook Mars.

Take a look into the Boyue Likebook Mars or its newer version, the P78. They do run android, but if you turn it on airplane mode as you’re reading, should help battery life. 7.8” devices.

Best ereader for reading Chinese with a decent dictionary?

Most of those really good china brand android ereaders have a lot of support for 3rd party dictionary and languages and fonts. My favourite is surely Likebook. The Likebook Mars is great and there are a ton of free open source dictionaries you can add, any language you want, plus it has built in Chinese experience, Wich is a plus for you.

New to e-readers, suggestions for non-Kindle ereaders?

I’m currently using a Likebook Mars Android eink tablet. It’s been updated to Android 8.1 so it is much better than when it first came out. It’s tough to look at old reviews because they weren’t that great compared to the Boox Nova 3. With the update the difference is night and day.

I have the Likebook Mars specifically for using Scribd. It used to be slow but I just upgraded to Android 8.1 and it is much better now. I highly recommend it now. The new ones now come with Android 8.1 so you don’t have to manually upgrade it.

E-Reader without a browser

When I use a browser on my Likebook Mars, the main thing I use it for is to read articles on the web. If you're going to be reading PDFs, then I would recommend a larger model, such as the Likebook Alita, the Onyx Boox Note, or the Onyx Boox Max.
