The Blizzard Zero G 95 skis are a fantastic choice for backcountry skiers who are looking to maximize their enjoyment in the outdoors. From the first skin track to the last powder 8, the Zero G 95 skis are here to make your life easier and more fun. At 95 mm underfoot, the skis are in that good middle-zone where you can use them in a wide variety of snow conditions and terrain. They're not too wide that they lose some quickness, and they're not too narrow that they'll sink. They have the Goldilocks thing going for them, and for many skiers, this fits their ski style really well. From a construction standpoint, it's pretty impressive how Blizzard makes a ski this light perform so well. Starting with a Paulownia wood core, Blizzard adds pretty much a full layer of carbon to stiffen things up. This is done without the addition of much weight, given the lightness of the carbon fiber material. Further stiffening the ski is the carbon reinforcement in the mounting zone of the skis. This not only increases binding retention, but also makes the ski a strong performer in sharp turns. The longer radius sidecut is great for softer snow as well as uphill skiing. You're able to ride a straight ski, making it easier to get around. For the downhills, the longer radius makes it easier to vary turn shape and style, and is less catchy than a shorter radius ski.

 These things are feather-light, really well suited for very versatile backcountry performance. As a result, we'd recommend putting a more technical binding on this rather than a hybrid binding like a Shifter, a Duke PT, something with true Pintec and a rotation heel would better suit the weight of this ski. It is a full sidewall underfoot, and then it tapers to cap in the tips and the tails, so from a downhill perspective, that means that it's going to be very maneuverable, which the lightweight already makes it, but it does add that little bit of torsional stiffness underfoot, better edge grip for when conditions get sketchy

But overall, this skier here is going to be on the advanced side of the spectrum, pretty dedicated backcountry tourer, good for going up the resort, up and down, and as well in the woods, 95 underfoot, we're looking at a 22 meter turn radius, so pretty straight cut on these skis, and that's going to be all right for deep snow, soft snow. We definitely get the tip and tail rocker that help with the flotation as well

 It's a full-length carbon laminate, extends all the way to the edges underfoot. There is a binding retention plate in there, and then tapers to the middle and the front as well, so that additional laminate of carbon does stiffen the ski, doesn't add a lot of weight. on the light side the Fischer Hannibal 106 and the Blizzard Zero g 105 both ski really well for their weight

I'm looking to get a new pair of planks. Hoping for some input from people who have been riding newer skis. I've been rocking a pair of liberty double helix 190 for about 7 years. Great ski, but I'm pushing deeper into the backcountry and they are definitely on the heavier side. I don't mind lugging a bit of weight uphill, but I'm sure there's something out there that can suit my needs that's much lighter.

I'm 5'10 160lbs ish. I like to ski everything, cliffs, chutes, colouirs but I mainly ski steep tight trees. I like catching air and sneaking a grab in, but not a big spinner or flipper really. Looking for mainly a backcountry ski that I can occasionally take onto the resort for a powder day.

Anyone got any recommendations?

 Hey skiers! I'm Jeff from SkiEssentials.com. Welcome to our 2023 ski test. Today we're talking about the Blizzard Women's Zero G95

 And when I say class, I really mean like in regards to how light it is. So if you're that style of skier, if you really value responsiveness and edge grip and good feedback from your skis, you're going to love the Zero G95. It's not like super smeary and surfy, it is more precise. But I think there are a lot of skiers out there that like that and it really comes in handy if you're skiing challenging technical terrain, tight shoots, tight trees, stuff like that

 But then I think it's fair to say that the Zero G's have always been one of the better downhill performers in their, at least in their weight range. Sometimes when you get that light, skis can feel pretty darn flimsy, even a little kind of pingy. They just get deflected a lot, especially with this new construction. This is hands down one of the most precise, most responsive and strongest touring skis in its class

 One is a basically three-dimensional carbon frame, which is really cool and that's probably the most important use of carbon that we have here. When you use carbon in that three-dimensional format it just creates a much stronger ski and more vibration damping, a little smoother too than just traditional horizontal laminates. We also get carbon reinforcements right underfoot here. You can actually see it in the sidewall

 Yeah it's light. It's maybe I want to use the word twitchy but I don't want to scare you. Let's say it's kind of responsive. You adapt to that quickly

 That's damn light. That's not getting into racing light but but for touring that is certainly a very light ski. You know the story here is you're getting Blizzard geometry at a very low weight and if that's what you want you know maybe let's call this again sort of a hard snow weighted touring ski more in the carvey rather than powdery direction. I think this is probably about as good as you can get right now

 It's very light. This is what a touring ski ought to be so kudos to Blizzard for this one and we're gonna ski a few more before the day runs out here. All right.

 It feels like a carbon ski but it's a pretty good implementation. It's not harsh. It's pretty darn silky sweet actually and what I'm able to do in terms of carving and turn shape versatility really impressing the heck out of me all over the mountain. Nice and snappy on the steeps, on the soft snow, really really impressive carved GS turns on hard snow

Blizzard Zero G 95 Review: with the Zero G you get Blizzard's hard snow geometry in an exceptionally light (approx. 5.3lbs/pair) Touring chassis.  For those backcountry skiers seeking carving performance in this weight range the Zero G is perhaps unsurpassed.

 These are the 178s, and this comes in at a little around 1300 grams per ski. So very light, very much uphill oriented, even has the skin fixation systems and the tips and the tails. This is for a blizzard specific skin on the tip, so you know, you want to make sure that you got the right skins for that, even though a loop tip will work as well. Little bit of a straighter cut in terms of the shape here

 The skis don't hook up as easily. Tip and tail rocker on these as well, and you know, a little bit of a taper, especially in the tail, makes these 95s float and smear a little bit better than if that tail went straight to the edge. So very nice, very smooth ski from Blizzard here, just incredibly light. You know, you're definitely going to want to pair this with a touring, you know, tech specific binding to get the best possible results, although a hybrid binding would work as well

 Very, very trustworthy while also being easy to ski, not too fatiguing. It's not like, it's not going to beat you up with like a crazy, crazy stiff flex pattern, certainly stiff enough to be supportive of some aggressive skiing. But yeah, I think they did a really good job kind of blending a lightweight feel with, with some good strength. And I think that strength and that responsiveness and the overall precision, that's kind of the biggest difference between these new Zero G95s and the outgoing Zero G models

 I would go just full lightweight tech with this, with this ski. Just keep it as light as you can. You're going to be using it in the back country. You're not, you're not going to be pushing it to super high speeds in the resort where you're worried about binding integrity

 So that is super, super lightweight. This is the 171 centimeter length. So we're not too, too short, not too long either. Obviously the longer lengths would be a little bit heavier, but that is very light

Now that said, with the updates to this ski, if you were to draw kind of a map of all touring skis in the world, or like try and come up with a ratio of weight to strength, I think this ski would be near the top of that list. With all that new carbon in the ski, it is just hands down one of the strongest, most torsionally stiff, most trustworthy skis in this weight range on the market
