A Big Agnes tent of similar dimensions will weigh between 4 pounds on the high end and 1.5 pounds on the light end. Cost will run $200 to $1000. All depending on materials. At the end of the day, the Ascent house brand at Cabelas is probably fine but calling Coleman low end is a misnomer.

Site selection, site selection, site selection: This I would say is the most important thing to using a tarp. You cannot just camp wherever like our Big Agnes fam, I'm sorry, but it just wont be the same. You have to be a little more meticulous about where you camp and where you want to setup.

The Big Agnes though, wow. Its 300g lighter and has some very cool storage built into its mesh that really helps to get nearly all my gear off the floor. Even though it tapers at the end where the naturehike is more roomy at the feet it doesnt matter. The upper storage clears the floor off.

I used to work in the industry and spent time schmoozing with Big Agnes reps. They make cool stuff and put a lot of thought into it. Not always the lightest, but very obviously built by people who use their own products.

Big Agnes customer service is phenomenal. I snapped a pole and ripped a hole in the rain fly of my brand new Copper Spur UL2 two weeks before a big trip while test pitching it. I overnighted it to them, and they fixed it and overnighted it back, free of charge.

I just ordered a new Big Agnes tent with a single door. It’s a smaller two person tent, but just enough space for me and my dog. Review from this sub:

Big Agnes is LEGIT. They once special ordered a new pad for me, condition unseen when it started to lose air, and shipped it to my Aunt's house in colorado so I could continue my road trip. Freakin legends.

I had a Copper Spur 1 from Big Agnes that developed the same issue in the whole pole set within several months of purchase. I was seriously disappointed by the quality and even more disappointed by their customer service. Their warranty department initially said they could sell me new cord at 50 cents per foot, which I found outrageous because it was less than a year old with no abuse.

Big Agnes tents typically have a Big Agnes hang tag on them. Getting a tent with no tag doesn't mean that it's used, just that the hang tag is missing. I'd suggest you set it up and go over it with a fine eye to assure yourself that there is nothing amiss. Pictures are good.
