Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio review: Audiophile sound without the pricetag
Sarah Tew/CNETThe DT 770 headphones make their professional-use origins known, from the rigid plastic cups to the padded headband and snaking internal cables. The headphones feel solid, while also remaining lightweight and offering a luxurious fit.

Open backs too much leakage for dorm use?
Quite possibly too loud. Especially if you're going to be using them during quiet hours while your roommate is asleep. It's not like having speakers at full volume firing away from your ears, but it's definitely audible in a quiet room depending on how loud you're listening. To be honest, I think you'd be better served with some decent closed backs (AKG K361/K371, Shure SRH-440, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, etc) or IEMs (Moondrop Aria, KATO, Etymotic ER2XR or ER2SE, etc).
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio Review
If we had a time machine, we would give the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio our Editors' Choice award when they were first released in the 80s, but take this review as confirmation that they still hold their ground against newcomers today. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio headphones are a classic that are still relevant thanks to excellent audio performance, a stable fit, and a reasonable price for what you get. My two favourites - Sundara and 6xx
These go for nearly $600 AUD here, so I am pretty happy with that. I also have Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's which see heavy use at work, and for gaming.
The 7 Best Audiophile Headphones - Spring 2022
Unfortunately, they're prone to inconsistencies in audio delivery, and you may notice a drop in bass if you have thick hair or glasses as this breaks the ear cups' seal on your head. Their audio cable isn't detachable either, so if you damage it, you'll need to replace the entire unit. Still, if you prefer closed-back audiophile headphones, they're a solid choice

Reliable headphone recommendations?
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. For the price, nothing comes close in build quality. The only part that breaks (hinge covers) can be easily replaced.
