Audio Technica ATH-M50x vs Beyerdynamic DT770

There’s a little of the upper mids sucked out which most people won’t want anyway. Also, they are super easy to drive, so no need for an amp. Noise isolation is mediocre. Overall, a perfect headphone for your average person who “wants a nice pair of headphones” but doesn’t want a big commitment

I was looking for something that was comfortable with no sound leakage that I could drive directly from a laptop and not need an amp. The main purpose was just to listen to speaking videos with the above requirements. However, after reading the reviews it sounded like they would be good for music as well with an amp - which I do have (Mojo). So, unless I was wanting to listen to true audiophile music, I thought maybe this would save me from having to switch back and forth between headphones when I took a break from speaking videos to listen to some music At least that Is what I had hoped

(score: 90/100 points) Pros –It does a variety of tasks really good with no real weakness at anything. It’s best for listening enjoyment…not professional studio monitoring as advertised. It has very warm sounding vocals, a balanced sound (with very slight favor to lower mid range & upper bass), and comfortable (loose) fit on my ears/head. It handles thick, polyphonic music passages with ease without distortion…while keeping the main melody/vocals volume and tone quality still cutting through with warmth

I'm not concerned with the way they look. They aren't displeasing to me - but I'm also not thinking these are the coolest looking phones, but I don't care about that.

If you are a travelling person that is exposed to lots of noisy situations the qc15 or the and-9's are the better fit for you. I myself transit much of the time. However, the loudness at which I play my music blocks out much of the noise (with the m50s which is around 50%). It all depends on how much noise that surrounds an individual

Isolation - They have a lot of passive isolation to them when you have them on (can't hear anything with music on). Outside of the headphones they don't leak a lot of sound (unless you have them cranked, and even then it's not blaring). If you want to use a mic while listening to music, you wont hear yourself at all. Cons: ***Cable length - You will need twist ties to use these as portables, the cable is extremely long Cups don't rotate in both axis, so carrying these around gets tricky (awkward shaped and big)

They are a bit muted in the sound signature which can make them less fatiguing than other, more analytical, headphones. Mids - A bit to high level for me, it tended to make punk rock music sound very close and muddied Lows - A bit boomy but very spacious Audio Technica ATH M-50x Highs - Quite good representation, a bit cold though Mids - Nothing special, no major issues though Lows - Too over-emphasized -----------------Comfort--------------- Beyerdynamic DT 770 - Winner Perfect. I wore these on multiple occasions for more than 7 hours and never noticed any pressure points or discomfort. The headband is larger than average to distribute the pressure
