Bedrock Sandals’ Cairn Adventure checks all those boxes, combining a low weight (1 lb. per pair) with a flexible and low-profile design that’s easy to move in. You also get good all-around adjustability via a buckle at the front and Velcro at the rear, making it relatively easy to fine-tune the fit around different parts of the foot. But the real highlight is the premium Vibram outsole, which is reminiscent of a hiking shoe and grips extremely well on everything from packed dirt to slick rocks and blowdowns along the trail. All told, these sandals are top sellers year after year and a great all-around pick for everything from daily wear to light outdoor use. One editor even backpacked in the sandals for multiple days after getting blisters from her hiking boots and came away impressed by their all-day comfort and sturdiness.

That said, not everyone will love the Bedrock Cairn’s thin, zero-drop design. The same editor who backpacked in the Cairn typically prefers a lot of padding but found that the sandals offered enough structure for her average-shaped feet, while another reviewer with wider feet experienced considerable soreness and achiness after an 8-mile exploration around Mexico City. Bedrock does offer the Cairn 3D and 3D Pro II models with beefier cushioning underfoot, but those with finicky feet or arch problems will likely want to upgrade to a more supportive option like Chaco’s Z/Cloud or Teva’s Hurricane XLT2 or Strata Universal below. Another potential downside is the Y-shaped strap at the front, which can cause irritation between the toes (this does get better over time) and uncomfortable rubbing where the foot meets the ankle.  I mentioned that in the beginning that you know my teva sandals my feet, sweat a lot in them. Well, these ones seem to be like, like they suck away moisture, and so i am finding myself having to lotion my feet a whole lot more, i'm i think it's the material rather than just that my feet are so like exposed to all the dirt and the Dryness, that is the desert, but i think it's actually the material, because i've worn sandals, i mean i've lived in the desert for a long time and i've. You know you just wear sandals it's too hot, and this is the first time i've ever experienced my feet. What do you do when you come across a water crossing and still have several miles to go? I have trail runners and had to cross a river. I took my socks off and crossed with my shoes on. My shoes were soaked and I continued walking for a few miles until they were dry enough to put my socks back on. Walking without socks sucked and I’m sure it made my shoes smell. What do people normally do?

How to handle wet feet &amp; water crossings?

Bedrock Cairns are a perfect minimalist shoe for folks with normal sized feet -- they are lightweight, hold the foot firmly when scrambling around on rocks, they are lightweight, have a good grip across wet and dry surfaces, and they are lightweight. Far lighter than Teva/Chacos, which was a main attraction for me for backpacking.

.can you please make an alternate design sandal with a wide-toe box shape?  I would definitely buy another pair like this, but unfortunately I can use the current design for hiking and would not recommend them for people with wide toes.

  The vibram sole is minimal but still feels rugged and durable.  However, the shape of the sole/footbed has a major flaw in the design.  It has a drastic curve inward which means my pinky toe hangs off the side and I cannot fully splay my toes for optimal balance.  I even got one size up to try and mitigate this but it's still a problem

Now I'm on the hunt for sandals! So I'm after a pair of sandals that aren't hideous, go well in water and are comfy all day walking wears. I'm also based in Aus so prefer ones I can easily get.

I don't wear birkenstocks - tried them and got never-ending hot spots. Based in my sub research I've got this narrowed down to:

Chacos
Merrel - District Mendi
Bedrock Cairns or Classic 
Astral Designs Rosa 

Any advice or recommendations would be awesome!!

Other than that, love the look and feel, and love the dirt lines of accomplishment I see when taking these off after a nice long hike!

Comfy, a bit narrow

 The sides also rubbed against my foot while walking. If they changed the material, this would be a solid 5/5, but with what I experienced (without socks, which is how I would use them), it wasn't enjoyable.

Excellent sandal, poor strap material

Well-made *IN USA* and minimal sole with NO heel are prime reasons I bought these, instead of other brands.
