Audix D6

It has a really smooth natural sound that you may not like. For most live applications (or if you are new to recording) I find it's better to use a mic that is pre eqed for kick like an Audix d6 or a Shure beta 52a as they usually get you into the sonic ballpark quicker.

Seems to be engineered to capture more of the click of the beater hitting the bass drum batter head than capturing low frequency sound. I have the mic off center so that it's avoid the beater click. It works great with the Solomon LoFreq that I bought, but I don't think I could use it as a stand alo...

i keep coming back to the audix d6. works well for rock and heavier music. i've had good results with a shure beta91a in the past...it broke and i never replaced it

I have some good Sennheiser mics I think will take care of the snare, and am leaning towards the Audix D6 for the kick. However, every now and then I will find a drum mic package that has a kick mic and then two of those pencil-type condenser mics for a decent price.

Unless you actually like your bass drum to sound like a cardboard box (d112) or a muffled lifeless thump (beta 52), the D6 is the mic for you. It’s natural response requires almost no eq. Just a deep, solid sound. For reference I also own or have owned the Beta 52, Beta 91, Audix D6, SM7B, Sennheiser 421/441/e902, and Heil PR30/40, and used almost all of the usual suspects in various studios.

These bad boys are awesome! I have owned an Audix D6 for years and finally got a second a while back. It does a really good job of capturing the bass from a kick drum or bass cabinet. The microphone is certainly better-suited for hard rock or metal, as it does tend to give a somewhat "scooped" sound...

Audix d6 will always come through in a pinch and with an acoustic kit I’ve never been disappointed or felt I needed more than that with a little eq magic I think you can get everything out of it.
