Moving coil cartridges are very expensive with very low output and honestly beyond this turntable.

It sounds great, it looks great, and I think you're really going to enjoy this.

I know it's nothing amazing but it's my first turntable. Any recommendations for modifications or upgrades are appreciated.

For a first Turntable it's pretty cool. You shouldn't worry too much about upgrading at this point. Enjoy what you have and when you feel you want to and have the funds, you can look at which Turntable you require next.

Decent but need a better stylus.

If you buy this, go ahead and buy the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge as well as the one that comes with it is absolute crap. Overall a good machine for its price. But the mechanics are audible, and I do hear a feint buzzing even with the replacement needle.

If you're new to vinyl you may want to consider a turntable with some auto functionality. Many audiophiles kind of lean away from it so it depends on your personal preferences. I put a tonearm lifter on my U-turn because I get kind of annoyed by having to get up to change the record often. I may end up moving the U-turn to my office and getting a cheap automatic TT like the Audio Technica LP3BK because my wife is a little intimidated by a fully manual turntable.

A Step in the Right Direction

Fast forward to October, and a friend flagged for me this AudioTechnica AT-LP3BK on sale on Amazon for $149.00, so I decided to give it a try. I've loved having it, I use it everyday, but it's made me realize that it might make sense to return it before the return window closes and upgrade to something that would be a better longterm investment. By 'something better,' I've been thinking (still) about the Pro-Ject Carbon Debut Evo and the Pro-Ject Automat A1. I've been reading so much advice and it sounds like a manual turntable is going to be better quality, but I've gotten used to the automatic return at the end of a record.

Is this a good deal at $125 bucks used?

I paid roughly that for an Audio Technica and I absolutely love mine. Before I had one of those little briefcase one's from Walmart and it was enough to get me hooked into vinyl. I bought the AT-LPGO with the Bluetooth option and it's been absolutely amazing.
