 I don't look at it as a major flaw; I wanted to find better sound, and using the on-board preamp probably isn't the best way to go. I decided to get a dedicated phono amp, and did some research to find a good one that was reasonably priced to test my theory that the problem was in fact the turntable's preamp, and not some other part of the overall system.  The ART DJPRE II ($49) was near the top of alot of best buy lists, so I bought it. Adding that changed the whole sound picture and I am really enjoying it

  The turntable is of very good quality. It seems very solid and well put-together. And, it's upgradeable, which is one of the features I wanted in an automatic turntable. I am looking for better sound from my records and this unit gives me a good foundation

A Step in the Right Direction

 So for a full-size record, you wanna choose 12-inch, or if you're playing a 45, you wanna go ahead and select seven so the needle falls in the right place. Let's turn our attention to the cue arm here, shall we? You can use the automatic function, or if you choose not to, or you wanna play just a specific track. This is a hydraulic lift that allows you to raise the arm up so you don't drop the needle across your record, select where you'd like to drop it, and then cue down to exactly the spot that you need. And that's it, you're ready to go

 For those of you that are new to this, Audio Technica is famous for their phono cartridges. But now they sell record players as well, so you get those famously good Audio Technica phono cartridges and that same attention to detail and quality in the entire record player itself. So this will require external speakers. For those of you that are curious, we're going to need to plug it into either a stereo system or powered speakers

 In this case, you've got this 45 adapter. And we're just going to lift this off and set it aside so it doesn't get damaged. The power cord is back here. This is really well packaged

 But enough talking, time to give this a listen. For today's test, I will be using a direct feed out of this unit right into the computer, so you'll be able to hear exactly the quality that you can expect.  What would happen if you took an LP-120 and an LP-60, put them in a blender together and hit the power button? Probably nothing good. However, if you were to take the best elements of an LP-120 and an LP-60 and put it together, you would end up with this. This is the relatively all-new LP-3 from Audio Technica. It was released this year at CES, and it's really cool looking

  The problem is that often the reviews of the audiophile will bemoan the lack of consistency of speed or a rumble and a platter which some people may not appreciate or even notice. Granted that a review of a product does demand an evaluation from many perspectives, there sometimes is distortion as to how one perceives a product based on the expectation.  I have friends who have systems that cost more than $30,000, have dedicated rooms and listen to music and try to take in every nuance of the sound however, that is not me. My expectations are less and therefore I want good and reliable, but it may fail the perfection test

 Belt driver direct drive was important to me only in that belt drive was less expensive and direct drive systems that were decent had an increase in pricing.  On delivery, the setup was easy. I took the 2 RCA jacks out and connected them to a device which transferred them to an optical signal and hook that up to my receiver. I realize this is heresy in the world of vinyl listening, but I wanted music I could listen to, and easy hook up, and my family and friends are not dedicated to every sound and change in timbre of the music that is playing

 That reference line starts here with the RT82 at $300 and goes all the way up to the RT85, which comes in at $500. And really the main difference between the RT82 and the RT85 and the RT83 and 84, the connections in between, are some different materials, and then also the cartridge. This one, the RT82, comes with an aluminum platter, whereas the RT85 would have an acrylic one. And then the other main difference is the cartridge

 But I don't think that vinyl and analog purists will mind the manual nature of the RT82 or other reference turntables. Another great feature built into the RT82 and the other reference line turntables that I briefly mentioned earlier are the adjustable feet underneath. These reference turntables have three adjustable rubber vibration isolating feet down here so that you can get the turntable to absolute level to get the best playback from your turntable. So once you have everything set up and you have it going through a preamp and into your speakers or receiver or headphones, how does it sound? Incredibly pure

5 inch powered speakers as well, which they have put together a nice package on their website. We've been big fans of what Fluance is doing there. Attention to high fidelity audio without breaking the bank is something that should catch most audiophile's attention and are definitely worth a look. Fluance RT82 Reference Turntable Review - YouTube

It’s definitely not overkill (it’s an entry level turntable) but I don’t think it’s the best you can do for the money. Also that Best Buy exclusive color is a crime against humanity.

I grabbed a Pro-Ject Essential III for $300 on Amazon. I was trying to decide between a U-Turn, Fluance RT82, & the E3. The biggest reason I got the E3 was it was available immediately. I LOVE it. I upgraded from the AT LP60, which I liked, but am super excited with the E3. Good luck with your decision.

Would y’all consider this a decent tt for someone new to all this or is it overkill for a beginner? Decided to just get my own tt

I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me. It has a cool design and looks. However, I am disappointed with the T 82 sound and the OM cartridge (probably I got a crappy one)

The Fluance RT 82 came with the OM 10 cartridge, which I was looking for too. I own a couple of cartridges; Ortofon Concorde MK2, OM Pro S, and Audio-Technica AT-VM95E. My favorite is the OM Pro S, and it has great bass and amazing sound quality (the other two are great too). I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me

 The sound quality of the bass is not match to my SL 235. I switched cartridges (and switched the pre-amps and used different pre-amps), and the sound quality of the RT 82 improved, but the sound of my SL 235 was still better. You will get a good sound with the RT-82 if you get a decent cartridge (OM Pro S, MK3, or better), and I still recommend the RT 82 if you need a good turntable.
