Don’t sleep on the Audient iD44. USB 2 so works with everything, 4 preamps jacked from their consoles, 2 DIs, balanced inserts on channels 1 and 2, and two sets of ADAT inputs and outputs. I don’t think I’m ever going to have to upgrade again.

It is hard to beat the Audient id44 for quality/ no of expandable inputs etc, you would need to spend double/ triple the price go get anything better IMO (higher end RME with 30 ins etc). The interfaces that add pug-ins prior to recording (eg UA) are of no interest to me as i prefer to record 'clean' and add effects etc later (not 'baked in' ).

It can be expanded to 20-in 24 out via ADAT (more than the 18i20). I use an Audient id44 as a master and two 18i20s for ADAT slaves/mic pres. Im thinking of upgrading the 18i20s at some point to better mic-pres. Don't know about the same/ similar price in your country but the id44 performs significantly better than the 8i6 in terms of noise, gain, sound quality etc, not saying the 8i6 is bad, its ok, (yes, ive got one, decent workhorse) but the id44 is better.

I have been using the audient id44 for the last year and I can confidently say the conversion quality in these audient units is really a step well above the competitors anywhere near the price point. I think people forget that ADAT is a digital connection. ADAT expander units are doing conversion on board and transferring the digital information over lightpipe. I know behringer has come a long way in recent years but I personally wouldn’t use their converters.

The salesman is a guy I trust that has worked in our local music store for two decades in the studio department, and he highly recommended me to upgrade to an iD14 instead of buying a Fethead or Dynamite for my SM7B feeded into a Scarlett 2i2.
