TP-Link EAP660 HD vs Ubiquiti UniFi 6 Lite

Multiple home wireless connection tests with my cell phone yielded 390 mbps or less on the EAP 245, while the Archer A7 connected at 780 mbps. I tried multiple configurations, making sure that only one device was powered on at a time, to insure no interference from the other device. In addition, the EAP 245s coverage to devices on my second floor was marginal. Tests with my laptop yielded similar results - 450mbps speeds connected to my old Archer A7, while the EAP 245 topped out at about 190mbps - all devices I tested were in the same room as both the EAP 245 and the Archer A7

It's strange they didn't put at least a 2.5gig port or something back there or maybe 10gb port. I mean if WiFi 6 is supposed to help saturate a connection then all our technical limits are going to be based on the 1gb wired connection they max out at, meaning 1 client or 100 clients, the max that puppy can handle is 1gbps give or take 10% for overhead. One day, we will have AP's that have 10gig network connection behind them and blazing fast speeds

I purchased this directly from Ubiquiti for the MSRP of $149, which is an excellent price. Ubiquiti's stock issues have improved; I recommend purchasing directly from them and paying MSRP instead of these scalper costs. Added this to my network along with a U6-Lite to replace existing setup of two UAP-AC-PRO to add full WiFi-6 coverage. In testing I was able to get speeds up to 500Mbps with an average of 100-350Mbps on the same floor as the AP, coverage seems the same if not better than the older units

Both have 802.11ac adapters, with my desktop having an AX adapter. My signal strength is also 'meh'. I thought I was missing something huge and obvious but something seems off

I needed a more reliable wireless Access Point in my home and have used UniFi in business applications and had to have one here as well!

Most of all, it is UNACCEPTABLE to offer no replacement for a BAD devices for over a month and market that system as a "Business" class device. Who has more than a month to wait on a piss-poor managed company? Like I said in my title, "MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SPARES"

So you'll see better performance consistency and better bandwidth as well. And we'll have to see if that long range device that they make gives us bet...

I had no previous dead spots and could reach my garage w/o issue and now this is no longer possible. Worse to get to my garage now I'd probably need a larger access point because the lite simply cannot reach my garage when placed as close I possibly can w/o going outside. I'll continue to look for a proper replacement that meshes well and doesn't break the bank but for simple usage this isn't worth the hassle. I should add that the IOS setup on this was worthless

Check your connected devices before you go investing in WiFi 6. If it isn't WiFi 6 ready, you will still perform at standard Wifi speeds.

None of my other equipment - Ubiquiti, Engenius, Netgear - had this issue when I moved them to my management VLAN, so one star off for this needless complexity, with settings scattered over three locations, and *zero* documentation either on the web configuration screens or the user guide for setting this up. A simple two sentence caution on the Management VLAN screen would have been sufficient - or, here's a crazy idea: Why not put the settings there? Last time I checked, there's no law that says you can't duplicate the same settings in several places, so you have all the settings that logically go together for the same function grouped together, so you don't have to hunt all over the UI for a setting on a different page that might be affecting what you're trying to enable. Also, when I log in with HTTPS using Firefox, it keeps wanting to know if I want to save my password (it's already saved), but it shows the password as a string of numbers, not the actual password, so I have to wonder if HTTPS is actually implemented correctly on the EAP245, because it sure seems like maybe it's taking my password and using it to generate a key that it then sends in plaintext across the network. Again, none of my other network equipment generate this weird behavior with HTTPS log ins

Setup your vlans and keep your IoT stuff (smart TV's, light bulbs, etc.) on a SEPARATE network!
