It's a good TV that mainly competes with the Hisense U6G, and while it's not as good overall or versatile, it has a few extra features to improve the gaming experience. It supports HDMI Forum VRR to reduce screen tearing, meaning it works with the PS5's VRR support.

It has a 60Hz panel with a great overall response time, so motion looks smooth. Like most VA panels, it has a slow response time with dark transitions, so there's black smearing with dark objects, but it's not too bad, and there's an optional backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur. It also has really low input lag for a responsive gaming experience, and you won't have any issues using it with the PS5 up to 4k @ 60Hz games, but without HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, you can't reach a higher frame rate.

Sadly, its picture quality isn't the best because it has some color accuracy issues as there's a noticeable red tint even after calibrating it, so you don't get the most accurate image possible. Still, it looks great in dark and bright rooms because it has a high contrast and gets bright enough to combat glare. All in all, it's the best TV for gaming on the PS5 if you're on a budget and want VRR support.

The TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 is the best budget TV for the Xbox Series X if you want something with VRR support. It's a good overall TV that competes with the Hisense U6G, and while the S546's overall picture quality isn't as good, you get a few more features like the FreeSync VRR support for a tear-free gaming experience.

It's very good for gaming as it doesn't have any trouble displaying games from the Xbox up to 4k @ 60 fps. But, because it's limited to HDMI 2.0 bandwidth and a 60Hz panel, you can't play higher frame rate games. Input lag is very low, and it has a great overall response time for a responsive and smooth gaming experience. It uses pulse width modulation to dim its backlight at all brightness levels, but the flicker is at such a high level you won't notice it. Although it's a slightly older model, it's still widely available and delivers a great gaming experience. It has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience and a great response time, with very little motion blur around fast-moving objects. Like the Insignia F50 QLED, it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, but it at least supports FreeSync and HDMI Forum VRR, which helps reduce tearing in games, and it's compatible with most PCs, the Xbox Series S|X, and the PS5.

It has an excellent color gamut, remarkably good contrast, and a full array local dimming feature to improve the appearance of bright highlights in dark scenes while maintaining deep blacks. Unfortunately, it has bad accuracy without calibration, and even after calibration, it's not the best, so if you care more for accurate colors, the Hisense U6H is a good alternative. The Hisense doesn't perform as well for gaming, as it has a much slower response time, but it delivers better picture quality overall.

If you have the PS5 or Xbox Series X, you'll want a TV with a few gaming features. While the Hisense U6H has gaming features like variable refresh rate (VRR) support, the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED also has that, and it has better motion handling, making it the best low-cost TV for gaming. You can play 4k games up to 60Hz without issue on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but unlike some more expensive options, you can't play games up to 120Hz as its refresh rate is limited to 60Hz, and it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. However, this is normal for a budget TV, and you'll have to spend more if you want these premium gaming features.

It has low input lag for a responsive feel while gaming, so you won't notice any delay. It looks great while gaming in dark rooms as it displays deep blacks and has a full-array local dimming feature, but it doesn't do much to improve the picture quality in dark scenes.  Its basically like having basic cable without a monthly fee. The tv will pay for itself in 12 months. About the sound, it is high end sound. You can use headphones and a sound bar but the sound is really good and immersive

 The sound quality is poor. You’d have to buy a sound bar to get greeter volume. Also commercials are so much louder than the program I’m watching. I also set up payments and they tried to take the payment 5 days earlier then they were supposed too!, and then the payment was unsuccessful because I didn’t have enough money in my acct to pay it

Review of tv

 A few times it wouldn’t turn on at all. I realized at that point that if the Roku function broke on this, that it would be totally worthless and I would be unable to turn it on to use. The remote control is the same type as you get for a freestanding Roku device that you hook up separately to a smart TV. It just does not work very well, and I have a feeling the TV is going to have a relatively short life before it just won’t work

Good value but…

 I had a ROKU device attached to the LG so the choice of a ROKU TV was a given. I do like the O.S. and user interface

 I set that to theater and a clear more dynamic sound arrived. I don’t know why TCL would set a default to a sub optional setting, but they did. Of course the product literature was of limited value, just had to experiment. I like it so far!

 There is a button on the front bottom that allows control of the device if you lose the remote. I bought a spare non OEM remote for $5.00, I would recommend it. The remote combined with the ROKU interface has a lot of options in spite of the remote only having a few buttons
