If you're on a budget and want a TV that comes with VRR support, then the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 is the best budget 4k TV for gaming that we've tested for your needs. Although its overall picture quality isn't as good as on the Hisense U6G, it's still great for gaming and comes with FreeSync VRR support to reduce screen tearing.

Gaming feels responsive because it has low input lag, so your actions appear on-screen without any delay, and motion looks smooth thanks to the quick response time. Although its backlight uses pulse width modulation to dim itself, it flickers at such a high frequency that you won't notice it and doesn't create image duplication. There's also an option to reduce the flicker for a backlight-strobing feature, but it doesn't work that well. It has native FreeSync and HDMI Forum VRR support, so you can use it with the Xbox Series X and PS5 to get a nearly tear-free gaming experience, but because it's limited to a 60Hz panel and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, you can't play high-frame-rate games.

It delivers a great gaming experience because it has low input lag for a responsive feel, and it has a quick response time that results in minimal motion blur. There's even a backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur, but it creates image duplication. If you want something for the PS5 with VRR support instead, then the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED is the best budget TV for your needs. It's a good TV that mainly competes with the Hisense U6G, and while it's not as good overall or versatile, it has a few extra features to improve the gaming experience. It supports HDMI Forum VRR to reduce screen tearing, meaning it works with the PS5's VRR support.

It has a 60Hz panel with a great overall response time, so motion looks smooth. Like most VA panels, it has a slow response time with dark transitions, so there's black smearing with dark objects, but it's not too bad, and there's an optional backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur. It also has really low input lag for a responsive gaming experience, and you won't have any issues using it with the PS5 up to 4k @ 60Hz games, but without HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, you can't reach a higher frame rate.

Sadly, its picture quality isn't the best because it has some color accuracy issues as there's a noticeable red tint even after calibrating it, so you don't get the most accurate image possible. Still, it looks great in dark and bright rooms because it has a high contrast and gets bright enough to combat glare. All in all, it's the best TV for gaming on the PS5 if you're on a budget and want VRR support.

The TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 is the best budget TV for the Xbox Series X if you want something with VRR support. It's a good overall TV that competes with the Hisense U6G, and while the S546's overall picture quality isn't as good, you get a few more features like the FreeSync VRR support for a tear-free gaming experience.

It's very good for gaming as it doesn't have any trouble displaying games from the Xbox up to 4k @ 60 fps. But, because it's limited to HDMI 2.0 bandwidth and a 60Hz panel, you can't play higher frame rate games. Input lag is very low, and it has a great overall response time for a responsive and smooth gaming experience. It uses pulse width modulation to dim its backlight at all brightness levels, but the flicker is at such a high level you won't notice it. Although it's a slightly older model, it's still widely available and delivers a great gaming experience. It has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience and a great response time, with very little motion blur around fast-moving objects. Like the Insignia F50 QLED, it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, but it at least supports FreeSync and HDMI Forum VRR, which helps reduce tearing in games, and it's compatible with most PCs, the Xbox Series S|X, and the PS5.

It has an excellent color gamut, remarkably good contrast, and a full array local dimming feature to improve the appearance of bright highlights in dark scenes while maintaining deep blacks. Unfortunately, it has bad accuracy without calibration, and even after calibration, it's not the best, so if you care more for accurate colors, the Hisense U6H is a good alternative. The Hisense doesn't perform as well for gaming, as it has a much slower response time, but it delivers better picture quality overall.

If you have the PS5 or Xbox Series X, you'll want a TV with a few gaming features. While the Hisense U6H has gaming features like variable refresh rate (VRR) support, the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED also has that, and it has better motion handling, making it the best low-cost TV for gaming. You can play 4k games up to 60Hz without issue on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but unlike some more expensive options, you can't play games up to 120Hz as its refresh rate is limited to 60Hz, and it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. However, this is normal for a budget TV, and you'll have to spend more if you want these premium gaming features.

It has low input lag for a responsive feel while gaming, so you won't notice any delay. It looks great while gaming in dark rooms as it displays deep blacks and has a full-array local dimming feature, but it doesn't do much to improve the picture quality in dark scenes. It doesn't worsen the picture quality either, which is great, and there's minimal blooming around bright objects.

If you're on a budget, the best gaming TV for PS5 is the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED. It's a great gaming TV with a few features to improve the user experience. Unlike the cheaper Insignia F50 QLED, it supports variable refresh rate technology to reduce screen tearing on the PS5, and combined with its great response time and fantastic low input lag, it delivers a smoother gaming experience overall. Sadly, it's still a bit of a step down from the Hisense U8H as it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.

In terms of the picture quality, it displays deep blacks thanks to its high native contrast ratio, and while the local dimming helps improve the contrast, it doesn't do much to improve the overall picture quality in some dark scenes. The best gaming TV for Xbox Series X gaming in the budget category is the TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED. It's a great gaming TV with a few extra gaming features. It has variable refresh rate (VRR) support to reduce screen tearing, but unlike higher-end TVs like the Hisense U8H or the LG C2 OLED, you're limited to a 60Hz panel. It doesn't support HDMI 2.0 bandwidth, so games are limited to 60fps. Despite this limitation, it still delivers a smooth and responsive gaming experience thanks to its low input lag and quick response time.

Another budget-friendly brand, TCL is a relatively new company in the TV market as they started selling TVs in the United States in 2014. Before that, they started as a Chinese electronics company in the 1980s, and they've since expanded into making different consumer electronics, from smartphones to soundbars. For many years TCL TVs were known for their Roku TV smart platform. Unlike LG and Samsung, TCL doesn't use a proprietary platform and instead uses either Roku TV or Google TV, depending on the model. Both options have a great selection of streaming apps, but the Google TV platform offers a more polished interface, while some people find that Roku is easier to use. Even though most of their 2020 models included Roku, their 2021 lineup focused on Google TV, and they continued producing their 2020 TVs, so this means that you can choose whichever platform you prefer the most.

Considering their TVs don't cost a lot, they compete with other budget-friendly brands like Hisense and Vizio. TCL offers a wide range of TVs, including small 720p and 1080p models, which are rare now and are great if you need a simple TV for a small room or a kitchen. Their mid-range TCL 5 Series/S546 2021 QLED and high-end TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 QLED use Mini LED backlighting, which provides finer control of the local dimming zones and higher peak brightness, but even on the R646, their local dimming implementation is only decent. This means that TCL is still behind other brands for dark room performance. They release a wider range of models internationally, and like Hisense, their U.S. models aren't available in other regions.

The TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 QLED is the best sounding TV with an LED panel that we've tested. Having an LED TV is good if you're worried about the burn-in risk associated with OLEDs, so you can constantly watch your favorite news or sports channel and not worry about damaging the screen. It has a decent frequency response with a well-balanced sound profile that delivers clear dialogue. It gets very loud, with very little distortion, even at max volume.

If you're planning on using an external soundbar or home theater system, it supports eARC audio passthrough and all major formats, including DTS, meaning you can get the best sound possible from any external source. Looking at the picture quality, it performs well in dark and bright environments because it gets bright enough to fight glare from bright sources and displays deep blacks in dark rooms. It has a Mini LED local dimming feature, but it doesn't seem that effective at improving the picture quality in dark scenes.

Unfortunately, it's not a good choice to watch DVDs because it has trouble upscaling 480p content properly. Still, it doesn't have any issues with content from cable boxes, Blu-rays, or native 4k content, which is great. It also has narrow viewing angles, so the image looks washed out from the sides. Overall, it's the best sounding TV in the LED category that we've tested.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money on the best of the best or if your room doesn't have direct sunlight, it's better to go for a mid-range model that's cheaper and performs well in bright rooms. If that's what you're looking for, the TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 QLED is the best TV for bright room viewing in the mid-range category we've tested. Like the Hisense U8H, it has Mini LED backlighting, and although it doesn't get as bright with some scenes, the peak brightness is still fantastic, and the reflection handling is excellent.

This TV has good out-of-the-box accuracy, so you won't need to get it calibrated unless you need perfect colors, and it also displays a wide range of colors. It's a good choice for watching HD cable channels, Blu-rays, and native 4k content because it displays them without issues, but it has some problems with 480p content, like from DVDs. If you watch a lot of DVDs, the Hisense U8H is a better choice.

If you want to future-proof your next TV, the TCL 6 Series/R648 2021 8k QLED is the best 8k Roku TV we've tested. It's a great TV with excellent contrast and a decent full array local dimming feature, resulting in deep blacks in a dark room. The high peak brightness helps it deliver an impressive HDR experience overall, as bright highlights stand out well from the background. It also respects the content creator's intent well, as it follows the PQ EOTF well and has great tone mapping in HDR. It has an excellent wide color gamut and good color volume, so HDR content looks incredibly vivid and lifelike.

It's an excellent gaming monitor with a quick response time and low input lag, so your games feel responsive, and they look great, with very little ghosting behind fast-moving objects. It has a good selection of gaming features, including variable refresh rate support and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, allowing for 4k @ 120Hz gaming with the Xbox Series S|X and the PS5. Unfortunately, though, there's very little 8k content available, so almost everything you watch will be upscaled, so the overall picture quality is a bit worse than the TCL 6 Series/R635 2020 QLED, especially if you're watching cable TV or older content on DVDs.

 I just use an Apple TV connected to it and use the Apple TV remote to turn it on and off. Another downside is the Apple TV remote wont change the volume on the tv like it did my old one. This should no longer be an issue when I get my new receiver, but definitely a negative.

  I think it would be nice if it could go brighter for watching tv during the day. The only reason it didnt get 5 stars is because its a Roku tv, which means the only remote that comes with it is a normal crappy Roku remote. This remote sucks. Like its the worst remote ever

 The operating system sucks and the remote only registers about 1 in 4 clicks no matter how hard you press or how long you wait between clicks. Its worthless. UI is easy and the remote is great, just need to get rid of the netflix,disney,hulu,and sling shortcut buttons..makes more room for the buttons u only need to have on a remote.

my old 4 series had better sound from speakers..i have same settings on my 6 as on my 4 series.

The little TCL remote was non-responsive way too often. I downloaded the TCL app on my phone which was reliable and instant. I preferred it, and set aside the remote.

When you first turn it on, you have to pair the remote to the TV.   The remote barely worked, I had to press the button 10 times to get it to do anything.  It took me over 10 minutes to enter my email address.  I even tried new batteries

  Luckily, I installed the Remote Control app on my phone and I was able to navigate around.  I decided to try re-pairing the remote to the TV and viola! it starting working normally.

Day two, I turn the TV on and the audio sounds like its under water, quiet and tinny.   I tried different streaming services, inputs, mute, volume control and turning it off and on.  No luck.  I decided to unplug it and plug it back in
