Tarptent Rainbow vs Zpacks Duplex

I ended up getting a Big Agnes Fly Creek 2, and it’s not perfect but it works well in those humid conditions—but the trade-off is that it’s heavier than a UL single wall tent. Others might have different and better experiences with single wall tents but I just really couldn’t stand the condensation.

So I won't go into any more specs on it because I'm sure you can find a lot of information out there about it. Let's talk about my opinion of this ten...

I dig that tent feature - both of my tents have similar capabilities - Hilleberg Anjan can do the same, and my solo is Tarptent Rainbow which has a porch mode that you can use when it is raining as long as it is not too windy - in which case you can have the view and cook despite wet weather! Heck, stick a chair under the porch.

I want bug protection and rain protection because I don't like bugs (f ticks) and sleeping out gives me the creeps sometimes, so not really into the tarp and bivy. It seems to me like the Zpacks Duplex (occasionally bring my wife or a friend) would be a good option, being 19oz and having bug and rain protection integrated (not a tarp or bivy system, so it's simpler i.e. one piece)

I would look into the Tarptent Double Rainbow and the TarptTent StratoSpire, The Two by Gossamer Gear and the Z-Packs Duplex and the Dan Durston X-Mid 2person. These will all lighten your load. You should google the difference between the Silpoly and Silnylon tent material and read up on DCF/CubenFiber/Dyneema and see which tent material is best for you. The few tents that weigh less than the Double Rainbow—like the Nemo Hornet, REI Flash Air, and Big Agnes Tiger Wall and Fly Creek—are made with significantly less durable fabrics. That said, it’s worth noting that the Double Rainbow does not come seam-sealed (you can have Tarptent do the service for $35 or purchase a kit to do it yourself for $8), so total weight will go up a little as a result. In terms of packed size, the Double Rainbow is a standout. The thin materials, hybrid single-wall build, and simplistic pole design keep things extremely compact

\- I like a larger space away from flies and mossies in Oz to hang out and read at the end of the day if required. Also if holed up avoiding rain the extra space is nice.
