When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. ED (EXTRA-LOW DISPERSION) GLASS
As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. ASPHERICAL LENS ELEMENTS
Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Hey everybody! I am an amateur hobbyist photographer using a Sony A6000, and I'd like to buy my first (secondhand) telephoto lens so that I can experiment with showing scale on an upcoming trip to Guatemala. I'd like to spend under $300 and upon looking at my options on Ebay, it's pretty clear that I'll probably need to go "vintage" (by which I really just mean pre-owned SLR/DSLR lens) and get an E-mount adapter if I want to stay in that price range.

Ideally I'm looking for an 80-200mm (ish) lens, although my only hard requirement there is that I can get up to 200mm (not *really* looking for a prime but might be open to the right one). I'm fine with f/4 but of course a higher aperture in my price range would be great! I've accepted that I'm probably stuck with manual focus here but honestly I should improve on that anyway, and my trip isn't until the end of July so I'll have plenty of time to practice.

One other thing, my camera is not full frame but from what I'm reading I think I would still be okay with a full frame lens at longer focal lengths? Any insight into the general compatibility of SLR lenses with mirrorless camera bodies would be helpful as well.

Since I'm so new to photography, the world of pre-mirrorless cameras and lenses is so foreign to me. I have no idea where to begin looking for a quality lens within these specs--there seems to be quite a lot of junky crap out there! Any and all suggestions are very much welcome, thank you!

 And even then, I've shot on bigger zoom lenses that only took 1.5 rotations. It is not good for "run and gun" shooting where you have to be on point with focus consistently. Also not good for non-tripod shooting

 I also like how small and light it is. I travel and hike/boat/ATV/run for a lot of shoots, so size and weight are always factors.

I know this is a cheaper lens, so I am reviewing this with that in mind. It is great for a quick fix that I needed it for until I can afford something better, but there are some major issues for the type of shooting I do that I've noticed.  The worst part is that the focus ring is indefinite. It takes 2-3 full rotations to fully go from one focus point to the next, which should only be an issue on bigger zoom lenses

 My fault really for not researching properly. I have had no problems with this lens at all. In fact I think it takes better photos then the 20-55mm lens that came with my camera. I can look out my bedroom window and snap beautiful photos of the birds nest that is in my neighbors tree

 It is a little large and pretty much impossible to just hang on my neck with the camera. I would go so far as to say that the camera does not feel quite as balanced but I imagine that is normal for such a large lens. I will continue to buy Sony lens in higher mm to hopefully catch the distance that my old camera had.

 If you want a telezoom that captures more light and delivers tack sharp results when its iris is wide open, you'll need to spend more money.

6 OSS isn't a great performer beyond 55mm when shot wide open. If you're looking for a telezoom that gets solid results at its maximum aperture, the FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 and FE 70-200mm F4 are both better choices, but also cost upward of $1,000

 The more expensive 70-300mm does a bit better, projecting images at 1:3 at its closest focus and longest focal length.

Its consistently high sharpness and beautiful bokeh, as well as its close focus distance, makes it a creative and versatile zoom lens that lets you capture some beautiful images. It's a very nice improvement over its predecessor in a number of different ways, and at $900 US dollars, it's expensive but still good value for money, so I've no hesitation at all in saying that this one comes highly recommended

 It feels much more solid and smoother to touch. It doesn't feel too heavy on your camera either, weighing just over half a kilogram or a little under two pounds. The metallic rear lens mount is surrounded by a weather sealing gasket. Also towards the rear there's a USB-C port for firmware updates, and that is followed by a plastic manual focus ring, which turns very smoothly and cooperates with the focus motor very responsively

 Greetings everyone, and let's get straight to it. Today I'll be testing the Living Daylights

 out of the new Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di3 VXD G2 lens, the follow-up to their very popular

 and affordable original fast standard zoom lens for Sony's full-frame mirrorless cameras.

 Tamron claim that this G2 version of the lens comes armed with a number of improvements,

 but it's also a little more expensive than the original at US$900 or £850 here in the

 UK. I'd like to say a big thank you to Tamron's UK distributor for loaning me one of the only

 review copies of the lens that they had for a week for testing purposes, although as usual

 A fast standard zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f2.8 is one of the most popular options

 on any camera system. It provides a flexible compromise between having a workable zoom

 range and having a wider maximum aperture of f2.8, useful for shooting in low light

 or getting noticeably out of focus backgrounds. They are particularly helpful lenses for wedding

 photography and photojournalism, well, all kinds of uses really. This one is designed

 from the ground up to work with Sony's cameras, so in-camera corrections, eye autofocus and

 all those other features all work properly in my testing. It's worth noting though that

 this Tamron lens does not feature image stabilisation, which is getting more common to see on standard

 zoom lenses nowadays that might be an issue for you if your camera does not have image

 stabilisation built in. It's also worth noting that this lens's zoom range starts at 28mm

 instead of the more traditional 24mm. Here's some video to show the difference. I shot

 this bit of video using a different lens. This keeps the lens's size and weight, and

 ultimately price, down, but some people will miss having 24mm available on such a lens,

 and if you're using an APS-C camera then 28mm really isn't a wide angle at all.

 Anyway, let's look at build quality first. The lens is mostly made of plastic, but it

 feels much higher quality than its predecessor. It feels much more solid and smoother to touch.

 It doesn't feel too heavy on your camera either, weighing just over half a kilogram
