Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM vs Sigma 60mm f/2.8 DN

Between the Sigma and Sony I'd lean more towards the Sony. The Sigma may be touted as a compact super telephoto lens, but ultimately it's still a really big and heavy piece of glass. I wouldn't suggest getting this unless you absolutely need the extra 50mm over 350mm and have the tripod + backpack space necessary to carry this lens around and use it. Another thing a lot of camera guys tend to not mention is size and weight

I am used to using a DSLR with a 75mm lens but with this lens at 120mm I am farther away from my subject than I would like to be. However, I can accept this since the sharpness is so good. For the price paid, this lens is very hard to beat.

I compared jpgs out of the camera as well as RAWs edited in Lightroom with the same settings. I compared dim room shots (trying to best approximate the skatepark’s lighting) and even well lit shots. I already knew from other reviews about the clunking sound when it's not powered up, but there's another annoying noise it makes when it is powered up. The stepper for the aperture diaphragm chatters loudly as it opens and closes rapidly whenever light is entering the lens until you hold down the shutter button. The lens focuses quickly and accurately, but manual focus seems a little less responsive than my Olympus lenses. All in all, it's still a great value in a prime lens of that focal length, and I can put up with a few quirks as long as the picture quality is good

The noise, or rattling, is part of the construction, the design, of the glass inside the lens. Once on your camera and turned on, shoot away with an amazing lens at a more amazing price. Thanks Sigma!

Even the hood fits with a snugness and confidence which I have not experienced in any Canon "L" lens, and I have used several. The fact that the dock came with a body cap was a really nice touch, since I could not readily locate the one that came with my camera and needed it during focus adjustment. Mounting the lens on my Mark III, I proceeded to test focus using a tripod, well lit (daylight) newsprint, and a measuring tape to get distance from lens to subject. I found that the lens front focused slightly and a +3 AFMA was needed at close distances

Two reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: 1) the internal AF motor moves around and makes the lens feels like something is broken internally (it's just the design). 2) I'm not a fan of the "focus by wire" but it seems to work well. I also don't like the smooth focus ring. Having said all this, I really can't complain because it's super sharp and only $200
