I just got a Z5 so I'll likely be selling my Sigma and Tokina lenses since I don't have much use for them anymore. I'll likely miss them both for their performance for the price which is where I'm coming from with my recommendations.

Has anybody had any experience using the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8? What is your opinion on it - worth the money for a wide-angle? I'm trying to find a decent and fast wide-angle lens that is full-frame for my D7500 so that I can be prepared to upgrade to an FX lens in the future. I currently have a 50mm f/1.8G, 85mm f/1

8 the lens scores 2,470 lines, and it peaks at f/4 at 2,690 lines. At 28mm the lens manages 2,457 lines at f/1.8 and improves to 2,562 lines by f/4. Zooming all the way in to 35mm delivers 2,399 lines at f/1

I compared jpgs out of the camera as well as RAWs edited in Lightroom with the same settings. I compared dim room shots (trying to best approximate the skatepark’s lighting) and even well lit shots. In all cases, I noticed very little difference. When in manual but with auto iso, the same exposure and aperture yielded the same iso selection by the camera

In the end, if you're thinking about getting this lens, the only question on your mind should be "is 35mm long enough for me?" As far as anything else in the equation, Sigma has you covered better than anyone else. If 35mm is long enough, there's no reason to hold off on this lens. If not, go out and get this lens and a 50mm prime! ;) PS: I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the Sigma USB Dock with this lens, at only $60 extra. All zooms are known to be a bit off on focus on one end or the other to varying extents

Between the Sigma and Sony I'd lean more towards the Sony. The Sigma may be touted as a compact super telephoto lens, but ultimately it's still a really big and heavy piece of glass. I wouldn't suggest getting this unless you absolutely need the extra 50mm over 350mm and have the tripod + backpack space necessary to carry this lens around and use it. Another thing a lot of camera guys tend to not mention is size and weight

Build It's really solid, and quite heavy for a prime lens. There's a lot of glass in there. You can really tell that Sigma has upped their game with the ART line. It's probably heavier than I'd like but it balances fine on my 70D, and probably even better on a full frame camera

If you shoot mostly at a wide angle setting, and you're craving for more aperture, this lens is for you. Even more so if you're a crop-sensor person (this lens is crop-sensor specific) and you're not planning to go full-frame anytime soon. Also consider some possible inconveniences of the lens before purchasing it, like the fact that is not small, and is not lightweight.

But it also has two big drawbacks—a maximum aperture of f/1.8, which cuts light-gathering by close to half, and a tendency to exhibit chromatic aberration.

The build quality is also excellent, feeling very solid and well-constructed. The only downside is that it is a bit on the heavy side, but that is to be expected with a lens of this caliber. The biggest negative (for me at least) is that it's SUPER LARGE.

It's not quite the night-and-day difference we saw with the recent Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art, but it's still quite noticeable. Compared to the earlier versions of the 35mm F1.4 Art lens, this new model has shrunk by 8mm (0

6x crop factor). That's still a good focal range for landscape and portrait photography, but too short to use at something like a concert or for sports. The autofocus is super smooth and very quite, but the focus is a little slow compared to my Canon 17-55mm f/2.8

Even the hood fits with a snugness and confidence which I have not experienced in any Canon "L" lens, and I have used several. The fact that the dock came with a body cap was a really nice touch, since I could not readily locate the one that came with my camera and needed it during focus adjustment. Mounting the lens on my Mark III, I proceeded to test focus using a tripod, well lit (daylight) newsprint, and a measuring tape to get distance from lens to subject. I found that the lens front focused slightly and a +3 AFMA was needed at close distances
