com is $240 US dollars which is $160 less than the $400 that is the going rate for this. So I think it is fair to have slight quibbles about the value of the HD 600 right now at $400. At $300 it's getting a little bit it makes a little bit more sense I think at least in my opinion it does. But $400 could be just a bit on the high side

 What kind of music are you into? I think the 6XX at least for my preferences is a little bit better for things like classic rock heavy metal. If you're going to listen to hip hop EDM that sort of thing on either of these the 6XX is going to handle a little bit better because of the added warmth and a slightly more bass presence all that it just feels a little fuller warmer handles genres like that a little better. If you're going to be listening to a lot of vocal and acoustic music I think the 600 is probably the winner there they both sound really good for like all the genres of music that I mentioned earlier. But I think just because of their slightly different tunings the HD 6XX is matched a little bit better to rock metal those kinds of things and the HD 600 is matched a little bit better to vocal music, choral music, string quartets, folk rock, acoustic guitar and vocal kinds of performances like a Jason Isbell kind of a thing

 The original HD 600 is a legend in our hobby and its design and its sound has stood the test of time. This is one of the newer versions that has been released and I don't remember exactly when these came out but within the past 2-3 years they came up with that slightly revised model that has the little bit different styling on the headband and in the colorway and that sort of thing. This is one of the newer HD 600s but nonetheless I have wanted to hear one of the HD 600s for a long time so when a friend of mine offered these for sale at a really good price I jumped on it and now you get to hear my review of this. So like I just said this I bought used from a friend

 The last thing that I want to say here before I go is I do want to say something about the price here. $400 this is an excellent headphone $400 might be just a little on the steep side I think and that is because of the existence of this. They are technically very similar like their technical capability here between these two is almost dead even in every way. Their primary difference being the tuning which I think creates a perception of a slightly more intimate presentation here than here at least spatially intimate not necessarily vocally intimate but spatially intimate

 Something like that. Again I will do a deeper dive into the direct comparisons of these and the other Sennheisers in a short in a near term future video I hope. Sennheiser HD600 (New Version) Headphone Review

 Hello again fellow audio files. I am Wave Theory and today is exciting because I have a review of a classic or at least a slightly new twist on the classic and that is the venerable Sennheiser HD 600.

 The original HD 600 is a legend in our hobby and its design and its sound has stood the test of time. This is one of the newer versions that has been released and I don't remember exactly when these came out but within the past 2-3 years they came up with that slightly revised model that has the little bit different styling on the headband and in the colorway and that sort of thing.

 This is one of the newer HD 600s but nonetheless I have wanted to hear one of the HD 600s for a long time so when a friend of mine offered these for sale at a really good price I jumped on it and now you get to hear my review of this.

 So like I just said this I bought used from a friend. Sennheiser has no idea that I have this or that I am doing this review so everything you are about to hear is my thoughts and my thoughts alone.

 Alright so I don't think I need to spend a ton of time on what the Sennheiser HD 600 is because it has been around forever.

 Basically know at this point that it is a 300 ohm dynamic driver open back headphone.

 It has a fairly neutral tuning to the point where there are a lot of audio professionals who use this for their mixing and their mastering and just general pro audio work.

 I even know some people who use it for that purpose.

 It is the Sennheiser. You know you have got that classic Sennheiser build. It is mostly plastic but it is still durable and we know this design works because there are plenty of original HD 600s still out there kicking, still taking daily use all the time and they have held together.

 So we know all of that stuff here. This newer iteration as I said it changes the color a little bit from that black and grey kind of marble, bespectacled kind of look.

 Bespectacled not bespectacled. I am bespectacled.

 But that kind of greyish marble kind of finish going on in there. This is just a slate grey except with the blue HD 600 in here.

 Over the years Sennheiser has played a little bit with the various materials that go in here but more or less these have remained the same core design since their inception in what the earlier mid 90s something like that.

 Now I have heard some say that these newer iterations here are not quite the same as the old versions. I have not heard the old version so I can neither confirm nor deny that.

 I am simply going to review this headphone as it is and where it stands in the market right now.

 And I am going to do that because you can buy this headphone pretty much everywhere.

 I googled where you can buy it right before I sat down to shoot this video and pretty much all of the major retailers have it. Amazon, B&H Photo, Sweetwater, I am going to leave a lot of them out.

 Even Target. You can buy this at Target. Maybe not in their store but definitely from their online shop.

 You can get these and pretty much the going rate on these is just shy of 400 US dollars.

 I have seen Sweetwater in particular advertise these as going on sale for 300 US dollars every now and then.

 But more often than not their MSRP is right at about 400 dollars and that is the current going rate at the filming of this video.

 So other than that let's just talk about the fact that these are a 300 ohm headphone.

 Their sensitivity got a little bit of conflicting info on the web.

 Sennheiser's website pegs these at a 97 decibels sensitivity with a 1 volt input.

 If you just google Sennheiser HD 600 specs like what comes up in Google's results is 102 dB sensitivity.

 But either way with that sensitivity in the 97 to 102 dB range what we are talking about here is a headphone that is still fairly efficient.

 So even though it is a 300 ohm load it is not the most difficult thing to drive.

 However you still do need an amplifier that can do voltage swings pretty large and pretty quick to be able to do these justice.

 So we will talk about amping these here in just a moment too.

 Alright if you were to buy this new set accessories are rather minimal.

 It is a 3 meter approximately 10 foot cable.

 It has the classic Sennheiser proprietary 2 pin connectors on it here at the headphone end.

 And this one has a threaded quarter inch 6.35 millimeter adapter like that.

 Which gives you the 8 inch slash 3.5 millimeter single ended plug here on the amp end like that.

 This cable is very light. You can see it is not super kinked up but it is a little bit prone to tangling.

 It doesn't coil up very nicely when you go to store it.

 It has a little bit of memory in it and it just generally feels light and cheap and chintzy.

 The brief bit that I checked it sonically I honestly thought it was a little bit on the congested sounding side.

 When compared to I have even forgotten what this is.

 This is just a cable that I found on Amazon.

 So I will go back and look up the link to this and post it in the description below.

 For the Sennheiser HD 600 series it has a Neutrik XLR connector here.

 And then aftermarket 2 pin connectors here.

 This particular one is a little bit rubbery and it's got a weave on it.
