In fact, I'm so happy with the quality of the sound (which blows away my next nicest pair) that I'm already looking forward to finding something new. My setup is simple: Schiit Stack (Magni 3+ & Modi). I currently own: Audio Technica M50x (my first baby), Sennheiser HD 6XX, and the DT 1990s.

 So if you've got a really big head like that, it'll, it'll actually still work for you. Now these do clamp on your head pretty tight. I'm a huge fan of the clamp force on this. I think it's very, very comfortable

 It's going to be depending on the game and how you play. Another question that I know I'm going to be getting a lot, 6XXs or 660s. And here's the thing. My thoughts on this are with the 6XXs and the 600, you get this texture and this detail, but you also get this odd sense of smoothness to the sound

 So this is probably going to be a longer video if you want to skip to any particular part, go ahead and jump here and that'll get you to wherever you want to go. That being said, the quick and dirty of this review is buy this headphone if you've never heard 6XXs before, if you've never heard HD600s before, if you want to hear what a basic representation of neutrality is, this is a great, great headphone, especially at the price of $200. Now one thing to factor in is that the HD6XX is a very, very popular headphone, which is actually part of the reason why I recommend getting it is because it kind of offers a very good reference for a lot of people who have heard that headphone and it makes it easier for people to compare based off of that reference, if that makes any sense at all. But one thing you should be aware of is that there have been reports of very, very long waits because these are so popular

They're in the lower end of the mid-tier headphone range and in some ways are only a small step above some of the entry-level audiophile headphones such as the Beyerdynamic DT 880, Sennheiser's own HD 58X and the new 560S that I haven't heard yet. So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy

 One of them is you might be looking at it brand new or second hand and you might be looking for an additional review and the other reason being that if you've watched my channel for a while and you're looking at other reviews and you happen to know the 6XX you'll get a better sense of how I hear things, what I like and don't like and it'll help you to use my reviews more effectively in the future. So here we go, let's have a chat about the HD 6XX. Starting off, these are a $220 USD or about $310 AUD headphones.  Overall though what I found was that the 4XX kind of was a little bit in no-man's land between the two. It didn't have the impact and bass of the DT880 that I sometimes wanted and at the same time didn't have the mid-range clarity and presence of the 6XX. So it sort of got lost in between the two and realistically I cut their listening quite short because I would either choose the 6XX or the DT880 and the 4XX didn't really come into play. That's not to say that the 4XX doesn't have its own merits but in this particular scenario I would choose either the 6XX or the DT880 before I'd reach for the 4XX

 So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy. Scott reckons he's got about 700,000 hours on these, I'm guessing that's an exaggeration but they still look pretty good, you can't tell that they've been a daily driver and a workhorse they still have a good look and feel to them. That speaks to the quality and the longevity of this design despite being quite plasticky

I used these things mercilessly for 15 years, gaming and even sleeping with them on. They still work like new. You cannot go wrong with Sennheiser HD6xx or 58x series cans.

Bought these off of a gentleman who told me he's had these sence they were new and had used them daily untill he needed to sell them. After reading some of the literature I find out everything's printed 1997 (that's older than I am). Got a different cable to reduce some length (old one works great still) new pads and a headband and there still my best sounding cans. Hopefully they'll go onto my kids

1997/1998 Sennheiser hd600

They really shine with audiobooks, studying/focus, and shows/movies. I usually prefer wired headphones like Sennheiser 6XX for music but for noise cancellation and the rich bass, these make an excellent wireless bluetooth option!! Focus/study will be improved for sure wearing them. No issues with any genres I can tell, better than most Bluetooth cans out there.

 Decided noise cancellation was only nice on an airplane, and I preferred wired, donl't have to turn on or charge. If you have eyeglasses or hearing aides like I do, these are perfact. Yes I have expensive Sony noise canceling blue tooth, but the HD5XX are just in a different class, use all day, gaming, general listening. Plugged directly into Gigabyte Z690 Master mobo, no need for a DAC/amp here

 Before those there was this and by some accounts, including my own, I feel that this is the best representation of what that design has to offer. Now of course these are all getting very old, but considering how robust this design is, even with the 600, even one like this that has been fairly beat up over the years can last for many decades. Now this is a bit of, I'd say, a trophy piece for me because ever since I'd gotten the headphones I'd always wanted one of these and well eventually I got one and I'll tell you right now why I like it so much and it's the mids. You know people pass around the word, you know it has great timbre and everything like that and yeah it's not wrong

 And so what you end up with is a slightly less, one slightly less shawty and slightly less mid-bassy variants of the 600 and apparently the old 600s compared to the new ones exhibit somewhat similar traits to the originals here. Specifically this is a third revision HD580 made in Ireland. This is not the German model and this is not as you saw this is not the silver screen model. This is one of the more common ones you'll find and you know it just has this really sort of odd, well quirky I'd say, and very 90s wavy aesthetic to it with these cups

Quick Look | Sennheiser HD580 Precision

Sennheiser HD580/600/650/660S fit just about any head size, and can stand the test of time easily. My HD580 is 23 years old, been actively used by the original owner throughout the years (and now by myself), and only ever needed the pads to be replaced as they inevitably wear out over time. Still in a 9/10 condition, and still competes in today's market in terms of sound. I can easily see it survive another 23 years, without needing to baby them

For other big head people, what kind of over ear headphones do you use? All mine break in the same place after 3-6 months

 An IEM will find it really hard to outperform a full sized can.  In conclusion, this a Headphone that deserves 5 starts without exception..

: This is the definitive category that the Sennheisers have been made for. The HD580 makes even the $700 Grado RS1 sound like a joke. I never imagined that I liked classical so much before this HD580. Man

: THE MOST IMPORTANT CATEGORY: I am going to divide this into sub-points:  (a) For Slow Rock like U2, Scorpions, Rainbow, Pearl Jam, Morphine, Little River Band, Eagles etc, it really boils down to your personal preference. Though I would say that most people the Grado RS1 will easily outperform the HD580, it should be noted that the RS1 is $550 more expensive. Having said that, I can still imagine many people preferring the Sennheiser sound signature.  If you haven't ever listened to a Grado or a high end Sennheiser, Byerdynamic, AKG etc before and if you are coming from a Bose or other low quality headphones, you can be assured that the HD580 will blow you off right of your feet

 My pair is very well broken in so the comfort level is supurb and they have just the right amount of clamping force. Just be careful if you get a new pair and attempt to streach them out as you can easly snap the headband. This is not to say that they are built flimsy, quite the contrary I think they are very durable. Then again I baby my cans and my pair has not a single blemish on them

 And if you have ears that'll fit inside those or you don't mind a little cramped cup and you like the look of these, you do have to have a cleaning cloth around. All these things are fingerprint magnets. And they are very attractive. Ryan did have them modded for having attached or detached cables

 It's a very well done headphone sonically. And I really do enjoy the sound of it. Unfortunately the comfort is not there for me. And then the other thing, the price of these is a little high

 I can feel my ear touching the backside of the pads and they're just not super comfortable. They're nice and light. They clamp well. They're not going to move around on your head, but for me they're putting pressure on the backside of my ear there and that just doesn't fit into my cup

 So they're a little bit too small for me. But why do they sound good? The Edition 8's are a very nice laid-back, warm, fun type of sound. And the bass is nice and authoritative. It has good details and clarity to it
