 If you have the budget the Miele C3 Calima and Sebo E1 Kombi are the same power but more features. Henry HVR160 is also a good choice but Miele and Sebo have actual dealers and I think it will be more helpful to see the vacuums in person first and try them and have a local place to get parts and service when you need it and you get longer warranty in store.

Help! I need a vacuum that's great on hardwood floors, also lightweight for stairs + good with pet hair...

To do any cleaning worth a darn, it needs to be on max suction, which cuts the battery life down to 10-20 minutes depending on the model (and believe me, it's not fun to be rushed). Emptying out the dustbin in a bagless is also disgusting. If the stairs are the only carpet, I would get one of the Mieles you listed or Sebo K2 (or E1 if you can find a used one in your budget), and buy a mini turbo brush for cleaning the stairs (Miele part STB 101, Sebo part 6179ER).

For context, I just moved into an apartment with two roommates. The apartment has two floors most of which are made of hardwood with the exception of some tiles in the kitchen and bathroom and what looks like a high-pile carpet in the stairs between the two floors. We don't have any pets.

One of my roommates really wants a cordless stick vacuum and bought a Laresar elite 1 which I and my other roommate have been quite disappointed by. We're thinking of returning it to buy a higher-quality vacuum.

Since we'll have to split at some point and then someone will have to buy back the other two-thirds of the vacuum, we don't want to buy a vacuum cleaner that costs too much. I've been surprised to see how costly getting a decent vacuum cleaner is, so I've decided to include vacuums up to 400 $ since it seems you can get a good vacuum cleaner for just below that price point (in Canadian dollars, I'm in Canada).

Looking to buy my first vacuum cleaner with roommates

Hi everyone. I can't believe this, but this is the first time using Reddit, so I apologize if I'm not posting correctly.

I recently relocated to a 1200 sq ft apartment, got rid of everything trying to do a fresh start. The entire place is hard floors, not real hardwood, but that plasticky laminate (I don't know the name). I anticipate getting a few area rugs once I'm settled in.

I have a Yorkie mix and he sheds badly when the seasons change and North Carolina is way hotter than DC so he's shedding like crazy. I have been looking at vacuum cleaners for over a month now and every time I feel I'm close to something, some youtube video or some article casts doubt and I start over. Ideally, I would like a robust, cordless all in 1 type machine. I really don't want cords anymore.

It also seems like these days, you can't really believe what you read in reviews anymore, with so many pay to review or fake reviews out there. And to make it worse, there are sites like "[bestreviews.com](https://bestreviews.com)" or "[topten.com](https://topten.com)" or whatever, that don't even test anything but get an aggregate of user reviews (fake or not) from everywhere and some algorithm spits out their top 10. Drives me nuts!

Labor Day is coming up and I'm starting to see sales. I was completely prepared to get a Dyson v15 (because 90% of everyone seems to love Dyson), but it also costs like a month's rent!! Then I came across Vacuum Wars and he was all like "Wow, the Lupe might be the best cordless vacuum yet!!". 

So, spent another week researching the Lupe, and really liked the modularized philosophy and it was slightly cheaper than the Dyson and was ready to get it and bam!..... came across another You Tube channel called Performance Review, where the guy is actually a vacuum tech. Then he goes on to say that the Dyson and everyone trying to copy Dyson aren't worth the money. The build is cheap, prices inflated, great marketing etc...... then he goes on to say the Dyson is really not that powerful, but people get mislead by numbers that don't really mean anything in the practical world. He also says that the Lupe is meh.... not quite worth the money and it's pretty much just a Kickstarter prototype right now based on his tests.  He also has a review basically saying the Hoover Evolve Pet also sucks.   
This guy also seems to have an aversion to bagless and cordless and keeps repeating the same video of him emptying a canister with dust flying everywhere.

From his channel, he talks about IBSIAC, another you tube vacuum guru and he's based in the UK. He also doesn't care too much for the hyped-up cordless Dysons and Dyson wannabes. He then recommends the Henry bu Numatic. But the Henry's are so expensive via Amazon in the US, but seem so much cheaper in the UK!! But both IBSIAC and the Vacuum Tech agree that Numatic's cordless Henry is one of the top vacuums.

SIGH!!! now I'm like when is this going to end?!?!?!?! As I sit here researching and researching, the house is getting dirtier and dirtier!!

Of course, then another ad brings me to [Hoover.com](https://Hoover.com) who now has a sale of the Hoover Evolve Pet, for $159 plus a free Hoover Dust catcher.  And at this point, I don't even know what to do anymore. The Vacuum Tech just said it was not a good vacuum. I almost just want to just get the hoover deal so I have something to clean the place with. I mean, any new vacuum, crappy or not, should be able to suck up dust and dirt right out of the box right? I mean, I haven't even unpacked yet and I don't like to wear shoes in the house and for some reason, this place just gets automatically dusty and I don't even open any windows or doors because it is so hot in North Carolina now!!

My gut says to get the cordless Henry. I'm 1 person, with 1 dog in a rented apartment with fake hardwood, floors. How sophisticated do I need to get.... right? According to the Vacuum tech guy, the Henry is just a robust, simple, no-frills but powerful vacuum with all the right attachments for floors. No need for any fancy roller brushes and stuff.  But the last I checked, the cordless Henry is going for more than $500 in the US from places like Amazon and Wayfair. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get a cordless henry? Or maybe I should just go to Home Depot and get a shop vac!!!

Anyway, I'm almost at my wit's end, and I start work tomorrow, and I really want to get this obsession out of the way!!! (I'm super obsessive it drives me crazy!!!) On one hand, I "can" afford a really expensive vacuum, but do I really want to?  I've spent so much money already on this move, and still need to furnish this apartment. On the other hand, I am thinking, just get the hoover Evolve on sale with the free dust catcher, and that can be my "disposable" vacuum until I find what I really want. But what I don't like about the hoover evolve is that there are no tools.... but then again, the dust catcher is free..... ARRGH, I'm just going insane!!!

BTW, I have also attempted to contact Wayfair, Vacuum Wars, the Vacuum Tech but no response, they probably get tons of e-mails like mine.

<p>Anyway, I&#39;m almost at my wit&#39;s end, and I start work tomorrow, and I really want to get this obsession out of the way!!! (I&#39;m super obsessive it drives me crazy!!!) On one hand, I &quot;can&quot; afford a really expensive vacuum, but do I really want to?  I&#39;ve spent so much money already on this move, and still need to furnish this apartment. On the other hand, I am thinking, just get the hoover Evolve on sale with the free dust catcher, and that can be my &quot;disposable&quot; vacuum until I find what I really want. But what I don&#39;t like about the hoover evolve is that there are no tools.... but then again, the dust catcher is free..... ARRGH, I&#39;m just going insane!!!</p>

<p>BTW, I have also attempted to contact Wayfair, Vacuum Wars, the Vacuum Tech but no response, they probably get tons of e-mails like mine.</p>

Vacuum Purchase in the US - Just unable to decide

 The head should snap tight so that the hose remains standing when you need to walk away for a moment. I had an inexpensive sears vacuum yeArs back which did this..

 Doesn't really work well on my oriental (fairly flat) carpet. Dust and/or pill collects on cloth rollers rather than being sucked into vacuum and I have to continually turn over, scrape off and push into hole. 3. Only one tool snaps into the machine, the other two snap onto hose

 2. I believe it's claims about the filter are true, as I have a friend with allergies to my cats and she visited after using this vac and seemed to have a lot less symptoms.  I am thinking of looking at the more expensive models to see if my complaints might be addressed as the two benefits mentioned make me wish I could keep this brand. Not as good as I hoped

 DO NOT PULL CORD ALL THE WAY OUT, the tab on the end of the spring in the cord retractor is weak, will pull off, then you will have a loose cord with no retraction. When you have the cord mostly out, mark it near the canister body with white paint so you will know that is the limit beyond which damage may occur. If you are fantasizing about using this machine on carpet, don't buy it for that application. Machines like this without an electric brush roll in the floor nozzle are best left to hard floors

Good suction. Bag is small

This is the best vacuum I've ever owned. Quiet and effective. Filters are great. My husband has allergies to my dogs and vacuuming with this beast means I get to keep both the husband and the dogs

 I do love the HEPA filter because I know all the crud stays in the vacuum. Highly recommend.

The Best There Is

92 U.S Gallons. Yes the Miele wins on dust bag capacity but the red self seals that are designed to fold over the dust channel holes fail to close up properly in my experience. SEBO's smaller dust bag comes with a cap that you manually push into the top fill dust channel which seals the dust up completely! The bags are easy to fit and easy to take out once you have mastered the simple design

  The same applies to the filters. There are two on this vacuum - a proper HEPA paper cartridge that emerges from the top under the SEBO nameplate and can only be ingeniously slid and locked in one way. The other filter is located underneath the main dust bag of the K2 at the back of the vacuum. In the UK where I reside, there are two options - a basic Hospital grade microfilter or an increased S-Class hospital grade filter which is better if you have pets

The Quality, Compact K Vac From SEBO!

I am very happy with this vacuum. I want to thank all the reviewers that took the time to write a review on this vacuum cleaner. After reading through several reviews I decided to take the plunge and buy this brand. I was fortunate that I was able to borrow the Miele Classic C1 Olympus system from my neighbor and had a test run on it

 The design was very well though out because there is a parking slot that allows you to store the power head to the canister in a vertical or horizontal position. I highly recommend this vacuum and I am thinking of getting my daughter one.

 The Miele vacuum is lighter than the Sebo. The advantages of the Sebo is that it's very well built, great suction for wood floors, there is no backdraft of the air into your face if you happened to bend down close to the vacuum canister, and it's fairly quiet (compared to my Dyson). The design was very well though out because there is a parking slot that allows you to store the power head to the canister in a vertical or horizontal position. I highly recommend this vacuum and I am thinking of getting my daughter one

AWESOME VACUUM FOR MY HARDWOOD FLOORS

 The good: Perfect for lots of flat floors (hardwood, tile, linoleum etc.) and a few short nap rugs or carpets. Great for maneuvering under and around furniture. One of the quietest vacuums on the market and great filtration

The brush itself is of very good quality and it works great on hard wood floor with dog hair, which it should for the price.However be aware that when attached to the vacuum wand it DOES NOT have the necessary attachment that allows you to slide it into the holder on the Sebo vacuum for storage. I'm very surprised and disappointed that the German engineers did not think of it, if they had I would have rated it 5 stars.

  One issue with the SEBO in general is that the more you attach, the less suction you achieve because the motor is in the base and not the handle. Yet with the carpet attachment, it works fine on carpeting. The carpet attachment on hardwood, and now the hardwood attachment on hardwood, does absolutely nothing. I feel like we wasted a LOT of money buying this vacuum cleaner as now I will resort back to my $35 Eureka which does a much better job
