 So far, so good.  However, when I then connected the T7 drive to my iPad, I was shocked to see no files visible on the T7 in the FILES application. And no clear way to enter the password to access the drive when connected to the iPad.  Cut a long story short, Samsung Tech Support eventually confimed that iPad is NOT supported by the T7 and they do NOT have an iPadOS app available to access a secured T7 drive

You will know that buying an iPad Pro with significant storage gets expensive very quickly. For example, the base 11” iPad Pro comes with 128Gb of storage for $799. Buy the 1Tb model and the cost increases by $700 to $1,499.  So it made sense to take advantage of the fast USB-C (Thunderbolt) port on the iPad Pro and buy the $115 1Tb Samsung T7 SSD to use as external storage with my newly-acquired M1 iPad Pro (and M1 Macbook Air

)  I have not noticed any real heat issue myself yet when the T7 is connected to the Macbook Air. But I do want to draw your attention to a security issue with the T7 when used with iPads…  The T7 comes pre-loaded with a Security application for Mac computers. After a somewhat fiddly exercise - involving modifying the Macbook Air security settings to enable kernel extensions - I was able to get the Samsung security software working, so that a password was required when connecting it to the Macbook Air. I transferred some files onto the T7 as a test and then ejected the drive from the Macbook Air

Fast, portable drive but with a security caveat…

I wanted a fast SSD drive to replace the slow, potentially error-prone HDD drive I was using for Time Machine backups of my Macbook Pro. This Samsung model was highly rated, so I went with it despite reading some negative comments about the software. In my case, the software proved to be unusable since it could never detect that the drive was plugged into and available. I kept fiddling and then erased and re-downloaded the Samsung SSD software but still it never recognized that the drive was available/plugged in

 Might come in handy as a hand warmer in winter...  In the end I just deleted the Samsung software and used Disk Utility to erase and re-format the drive to APFS (Encrypted) and placed a password on the drive

2 Gen 2 ports. Still, the Samsung is 2-3X faster than my old HDD and presumably more secure from failure, so I can live with it.  Amazon lowered the price for this drive days after I ordered it, which is annoying. Monitor the price and time your purchases carefully!

Seems to work great

 You cannot ask for more form an external hard drive right now. It is small in size, but big in capacity and performance.

 It has one USB-C port and feels very solidly built. It feels like it can take a lot of knocking around  without suffering any ill effects.

 I tested the speed by moving files of all sizes around and even GBs of file instantly from my internal SSD to this drive. It feels like you are working with an internal SSD or NVME which is amazing for an external drive. This is a great addition to any computer whether you need it to expand your storage, or maybe play games from it or to transfer files between machines as well.

Ease of Use: The T7 is plug and play with my computer and PS4 console, just use the included cables for USB-C or USB 3.0 connection and you need do nothing more. No driver needed to be installed or downloaded for it to work on my Windows PC or PS4 console. It is very easy to use

The square reader is prominently outlined with a white border and similar in size to the readers we've seen on many laptops in recent years. The white border does double duty as an LED activity indicator. The drive is rated to achieve sequential read speeds of 1,050MBps and sequential write speeds of 1,000MBps, and it came close in our testing. It achieved 952MBps read and 960MBps write speeds in the Crystal DiskMark test.

 I’ve loaded a ton of video footage on it and I’m surprised at how fast the drive is. I linked to the drive as a file source as I was editing videos and it worked well. I’ve done this with other drives in the past and they’re very laggy and can crash. I have yet to log any serious time with this but so far so good

 I also love the fingerprint scanner for security. It is fast, reliable, and provides the extra security I need.  Lastly, since I’m not all work and no play, I tested the drive with my Xbox. Plugged it in as an external storage device to store some of my games on it
