Ruckus R710 vs Ubiquiti AmpliFi HD

For WiFi APs, I suggested getting used Ruckus r610/r710 APs and load them with ruckus unleashed firmware. No support contract needed. One of my friends replaced his amplifi HD and his family stop complaining about bad WiFi. Anyway, l have been deploying ruckus APs to clients since 2014 and it’s great and very reliable

The good: - super stable, I haven't had the devices crash in the month I've had it (unlike the tplink it replaced, which crashed daily) - nice, if simple, ui, if you don't mind doing all config via a mobile app. - great coverage: Amplifi + 2 mesh extenders more than well covers more than an acre sized lot + buildings - ipv6 that "just works" The bad: - Config is buggy: I naively set my 2.4ghz channel to 40mhz bandwidth which killed the wifi (bad idea in a heavily congested area). fixing it it in the config software didn't actually reset the bandwidth to 20mhz, only a hard reset did

The R710 is also the only Wave 2 access point that can simultaneously support spatial multiplexing, adaptive antenna switching and transmit beamformin...

And tapping on the access points lets you see the signal strength and choose whether you want a five gigahertz or 2.4 gigahertz backbone connection an...

(2) This product is aimed at people that likely already have PoE (power over ethernet) switches and actual routers. To include a PoE injector or a power supply in addition to the access point's packaging would just result in a lot of waste. PoE means that you just have to run the network cable to where the access point will be - not a separate power supply (like USB-powered hard drives). Standalone PoE injectors work great as well and are widely available

And secondly, put it in the outlet nearest the device you need connected. The speed test is noticeably different even in outlets in the same room.

Experienced too many dropouts, inconsistent speeds and frankly, terrible range compared to the Ruckus R710. Certainly hope your experience will be same as ours if you decide make this purchase.

I am sharing these details about my home so that you can relate to the location and access point signal quality comments below. I downloaded the iOS Mobile App and followed the instructions for installation. The Amplifi Router is connected to my AT&T Residental Gateway [U-Verse] on the 3rd Floor, in the Office which is located in the center of the 3rd Floor near an open staircase to lower floors. Upon installation, I was prompted to download the Amplifi Router Firmware Update, which took about 3-4 minutes to install
