  Still, I'm gonna try the SPD-SX again. Really, the only thing keeping me away from the Yamaha, is the Yamaha's lack of real-time effects knobs. Brilliant device but VERY fragile

 Now let's talk about some of the differences between the two pads. The SPD-30 is better suited to making a compact electronic drum kit. It has a hi-hat control input and layered V drum sounds which respond dynamically to your playing. The SPD-SX allows you to play your own backing tracks or your own custom samples

 You can even route a click track to your in-ear monitors or headphones while sending a clean signal to front of house. If you're into electronic music the SPD-SX has powerful DJ style effects control over multiple engine. On the front we have two master effects control knobs which affect things like filter cutoff and delay time. You can also assign effects to the nine individual pads

 They come in two different models, the original version and the one I have here, the SE or Special Edition. The Special Edition has the same functionality as the original but includes more memory and has a red finish. This is a pad that allows you to easily sample any sound and play them back on the nine included pads or external triggers. The SPD-SX can be used as a standalone instrument or in combination with a drum kit, a Roland V-Drums kit or acoustic percussion instruments to layer, enhance and expand your sound

That way when it arrives you can enjoy it right away*** [

 As long as you don't expect it to do something else that it's not designed to do, you'll love it. One of the best part is it's metronome/tempo output routing. You can route to earphones, main out or sub-out.  Go around and add up all the individual components, and you'll see what I mean.  I still don't see the components listed here so here's my 2 cents to try and list them and give a brief review:  The main unit is the Roland SPD-SX. The unit is a bit lighter for what I was expecting but also really sturdy. Really well built

 I have them beside my PC for when I bring the unit to import sounds etc.  I am very pleased with this bundle. I have not seen any other bundle for this unit over the net so it was a no-brainer.  I will be using this to reproduce some sequences in a live setting for Message to Venus: [

Great bundle to start playing right away your SPD-SX

 Some reason I feel like you could hook up a hi hat foot pedal though. You can insert a Boss foot pedal to trigger certain samples or loops or switch through the menu. Get back to me if you figure this out. Also, I've thought about using the pad and putting it where the snare would be, using a kick pedal and Roland kick trigger pad, and straight acoustic hi hat

 Think of it as having the capability to be a drummer and DJ at the same time. You can trigger vocal samples like DJs do, and even trigger loops that can compliment what you or your band is doing. Now just because it is a looper and sampling pad, don't be discouraged. There may not be as many pre-loaded samples as the Octapad or DTX out of the box but there definitely is opportunity to have just as many, that still respond to your sensitivity (hit it hard, its loud, lighter, it will be more quiet)

..  First of all, this is mainly a SAMPLING/LOOPING PAD. If your purpose is to get a drum machine that is full of different sounds (drum kits or voices) or is as close to a Roland electronic drum set, you may want to look into the Roland Octapad or Yamaha Dtx multi 12, but I really wasn't very thrilled with the Yamaha

  Upload your own loops/samples, or make your own and record straight to pad.  Super easy to use out of the box  Software makes it easy to upload samples from your computer and apply it to whatever pad you want.  Great metronome feature which if practicing with a band and you have a PA, you can output the metronome so everyone can hear it, or just for your own personal use with headphones.  The package I got on Amazon had a few quarter to quarter, xlr male to quarter, a boss foot pedal switch, and the necessary cable for that for 800 (no tax, free shipping)

 We're also awesome. Because James and I own one each and we play live kit. And now this allows us to bring the digital world to the acoustic analog world. Yeah, sure

 It features an inbuilt MIDI sync in and MIDI sync out. So it means that you can now sync everything to your program. So if you're using Ableton and you're doing something 125 BPM, you change the click value up to 130 and it will automatically send that information to Ableton and all your samples are in sync. And if you've got a guitarist and you've got somebody using a drum machine or something like a guitar pedal that's got syncing capabilities

 Let's dive in. Let's go over some of the points why you should own the new Roland SPD-SX. I said S-X Pro. Sorry, that's my diction

 You'd have to have perfect memory or a year+ of consistent experience messing with this to get where I want to go. The biggest thing is that you have to be able to visualize how all the effects are connected, what they are, and how they behave - in addition to what sub-sub-sub menu they are located.  I honestly should have gotten something like the DrumBrute.

I saw that video of the guy walking down the street with this thing in his hand like a mini boom-box, headphones on, creating some sort of beat on-the-go. I should have known then that this wasn't quite what I was looking for.  I really want to like this thing, but the sounds I am looking for aren't quite there.  I think this device could seriously use an actual critical review other than a 5-star "it's the best" because that's not 100% true.  If you're new to all this stuff, and your ears haven't heard 808 open hats for 20 years, and you want a DAWless experience, I highly recommend this.  If you've been around the block and really know what you're getting into, price just doesn't match the value of product IMO -- it's just a very, very fancy toy. I realize you can say that about a lot of things but that's where I'm at with this

  Depending on the built-in sound, and effects applied to it, the volume fader would simply function as mute, or rather when set at 50% I couldn't hear anything.  I realize this thing could probably shine more with your own sounds, but I'm a Roland fanboy, it's supposed to have all I need out of the box.  I've heard some of the OG TRs, I've used some of the older grooveboxes, I've heard plenty of analog equipment in practice. I've been making electronic music for 17 years

  I get set up with your typical 909 kicks and some blips for techno, and the sound just doesn't live up. It just didn't sound like anything I couldn't get elsewhere for much cheaper. The ACB does exist and this is most evident in the fact that it doesn't get as exhausting so quickly to keep hearing looping drum sounds  The buttons and knobs feel really sturdy for the most part, but a couple of them I couldn't tell I was pressing it though it worked just fine.  The device itself is heavy and sturdy to hold in one hand, but I don't see it surviving a fall
