Red Wing Moc Toe vs White's Bounty Hunters

Red Wing ships these with their own "special" custom crepe sole blend which I expect will deteriorate completely in a year. By design I wonder? I'm already seeing the tell tale signs in the outer corners of the heels wearing after just a few weeks of light use. I'll then take these in to be resoled with the Vibrams they should have shipped to begin with! So these boots should really be considered a near $400 dollar investment with a planned near term sole replacement.

I think I have a wide-ish foot and I have some 8” Red Wing moc toes in EU40/US7.5. The Red Wings were definitely a bit narrow for me but over time they’ve stretched and now fit really well.

Despite my reservations about buying a shoe that was a half size smaller than every other pair I own, these felt comfortable on my feet from the get go, and I was wearing athletic socks at the time. I believe these are the Leo last, and they fit just as good with thinner dress socks - snug in the heel and instep, but room to comfortably wiggle my toes. Any doubt I had about these melted away after taking a few steps in them. Plus I think the color will be super versatile, and between the look and the extra laces, these will be great for both casual and work (teacher) wear

Also scored serious patina points on that trip. Apart from being heavy and clunky they are broken in and super comfortable and I’ve used them on various hiking incursions since then.

The souls wore much too fast and the uppers stretch. Again I’m Impressed with the high quality leather, stiching and craftsmanship. The souls for the price point need to last longer, be thicker and not cost 100bucks to replace in a year. I saw inside a year after the souls would need repair

This came in especially handy because there are a LOT of different black leathers available for Bounty Hunters. Ultimately, I went with Black Otter because it had, to me, the best combination of luster, thickness, and suppleness of all of the samples I requested
