 Red Wing ships these with their own "special" custom crepe sole blend which I expect will deteriorate completely in a year. By design I wonder? I'm already seeing the tell tale signs in the outer corners of the heels wearing after just a few weeks of light use. I'll then take these in to be resoled with the Vibrams they should have shipped to begin with! So these boots should really be considered a near $400 dollar investment with a planned near term sole replacement.

 Once break in is over they will fit like a glove. The footbed is a very rigid piece of leather with a cork mid-sole beneath it. There is also a removable leather insole. What begins to happen is that this rigid piece of leather begins to conform to your foot, almost forming a natural semi-rigid orthotic, which is the kind you want

 The arch won't be as high as a custom orthotic but it will mold to fit your foot.  Being a long time plantar fasciitis sufferer I was concerned about my custom orthotics fitting in these because of the height of the heel pad in the boot. I took these to my Podiatrist and she said I didn't even need to wear my orthotics with these boots! Awesome. Very glad to hear my doctor approves of these for me and my condition

 I think I have a wide-ish foot and I have some 8” Red Wing moc toes in EU40/US7.5. The Red Wings were definitely a bit narrow for me but over time they’ve stretched and now fit really well.

Despite my reservations about buying a shoe that was a half size smaller than every other pair I own, these felt comfortable on my feet from the get go, and I was wearing athletic socks at the time.  Reassuring me to no doubt.  I went with 10 D first, but had to return them for a wider fit. So, I went with a size 10 2E. Out of the box the width was great, the fit was a bit roomy, not loose, but not quite as snug as I wanted them to be

 As it turns out it appears to me they are the Briar Oil Slick, and they look great.  Made in the USA, baby!

Outstanding product I measure a 13.250 at the store. I bought a 12 Fits perfectly I’m still in the break in business but I love them more every day.  Update:  I'm through the painful break in period and keep waiting for these boots to feel like "The BEST boots i have ever owned"

 The souls for the price point need to last longer, be thicker and not cost 100bucks to replace in a year. I saw inside a year after the souls would need repair. That service is 125 on a heratige boot.  Total investment: 425 by the second year take note

Lazy Sunday GD 01/10/21

RM Williams Comfort Craftsman. My one boot to rule them all. Rugged enough for the outdoors while still being dressy enough for a suit if needed.

I’m in the market for the possible near winter trip (may be snowy) or further trips in the future. I understand there’s no one-shoe for all but I think with my needs and your bright minds, we can possibly narrow it down to some good options.

About me:
- male in 20s and active
- loves site-seeing, bars/clubs, slowly getting into hiking
- cares about looks but also values comfort (lol)

What I’m looking for:
- winter shoes/boots for everyday wear or light hiking
- comfortable
- decently weather resistant (it won’t affect my travel schedule because of snow, light rain, or cold weather)
- looks stylish (no hiking boots to nightclub and etc)
- (optional) exceptional warranty or well built
- (optional) lightweight. But if comfortable, can be compromised 

Options I’ve discovered:
- GoRuck MACV-1: this looks very comfortable and lightweight. Looks decently good-looking and has great warranty. Only downside would be no weather proof. But really do I even need weather-proof if I’m not actively walking on snow or muds? Not sure.
- Lems Waterproof Boulder boot: almost perfect. Crazy good reviews and recommendations but I just can’t get used to its look. Also I wish that it had better grip for its outsole. I just need people to constantly hypnotize me so I’ll eventually think it looks good lol.
- Danner Logger 917: current lead. Doesn’t look too heavy compared to other boots. Looks pretty sexy and comfortable. Also probably okay for light hiking and weather. Downside would be price and only one year long warranty.
- Other standard winter boots: like Thursday, Red Wing, Viberg. Haven’t really looked into them. But I feel that they’re built very strong and weather-proof (for some). They’ll be pretty heavy but possibly comfortable after break-in. Hiking is questionable though (or I just haven’t looked enough).

What are the ones that do you wear? Do my assumptions sound reasonable? Let me know!
