 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

 Lastly I did not feel confident enough in the caps retention to have it in my pocket. I’m sure it works well in other uses, but I bought it to be a pocket pen.

A step up (under $300) - Pilot Custom 823 - great nib, the filling system, hard to beat this pen at any price. Pricey (up to $700 or so) - Pelikan Souverän M1000 Green - beautiful pen, fabulous nib

 There’s a small bit of feedback, but overall this is one of the smoothest fines in my collection. I am in love.

 I never post my pen caps. This pen is very compact and will easily fit into vest pockets or shirt pockets. It is very fine quality and very lightweight. It is one of the silkiest writing pens I have used and rivals pens costing almost a grand

 key factors affecting price. The nibs just feel different. I use steel nibs still (Lamy Al Star and Kaweco Sport), but they don’t quite compre to the Lamy 2000 or a vintage Parker Duofold. The latter two pens are heavier, use piston filling and button filling mechanisms, have gold nibs, and feel more carefully engineered

What is the difference between an expensive and a $20 pen?

4 - A nice looking acrylic doesn't mean you should be charging $180 for a pen without a clip.  I know, it is small batch, handmade but still, would it kill you to put a nice clip on it? Birmingham Pens finally figured it out, let's hope it trickles down.

#3: (More of a popular opinion, but I’m saying it anyways.) Sailors are really absurd with their “special editions.” Let’s throw some randomly colored parts together and call it a fabulous new finish.

#5: Modern “demonstrators” with CC filler types have lost the entire idea of a fountain pen demonstrator.

#6: Pens should go back to having reversible grinds.

#7: Pelikan steel nibs (ie. M200, not Twist) are better than their gold nibs.

Unpopular Fountain Pen Opinions for 2022

  I don’t mean to detest this pen because I want to love it, but when comparing it to the Parker Urban, it is not worth 10 times the price...I don’t believe it’s a 10 times better writing experience compared to the Urban

The Duofold just increased Parker’s Urban value tenfold!

I got the Blue Chevron version of this pen and it is quite beautiful (needless to say, at this price point you buy the pen more for its looks than for its nib).  First - the pen is big and heavy overall, but the cap is what makes the statement (it is BIG). Without it, the size of the pen is "normal", although still on the hefty side, which I like.  Very cool!  Other than writing, fit in the hand is most important to me, and here the Big Red really excels. The Big Red’s grip section is stellar, contouring down to a moderate flare at the end. Brilliant! For comparison, the flare at the end of the grip section on my Sailor Realo 1911 and Pelikan Souverän M805 are less pronounced, and my Aurora Optima is more pronounced.
