The acoustic strums don't sound overly bright, but they still cut through the mix pleasingly for a solid balance. These are headphones for audiophiles looking for accuracy without things sounding thin or clinical.

Overall though what I found was that the 4XX kind of was a little bit in no-man's land between the two. It didn't have the impact and bass of the DT88...

The moment I took it out of the box and put it on my head, I was blown away by the sound. So clean, detailed, airy, extended, wide and a decent stage. Such a big contrast to all my previous headphones.

In fact, I'm so happy with the quality of the sound (which blows away my next nicest pair) that I'm already looking forward to finding something new. My setup is simple: Schiit Stack (Magni 3+ & Modi). I currently own: Audio Technica M50x (my first baby), Sennheiser HD 6XX, and the DT 1990s.
