I recently moved to an apartment that provides internet access for all residents via a contract with an ISP and I have been unable to download torrents ever since. They have a router and firewall set up with content filtering. I wish I knew that before signing the lease. I have been using an anonymous SOCKS5 proxy for a few years, instead of a VPN, just for torrents. I tried PureVPN before that, but the split tunneling hardly ever worked right and I need that because my Plex server won't work right over a VPN.

I thought maybe double NAT was the problem, so I tried bypassing my personal router. That didn't help. I found out about the content filtering when it blocked my attempt to go to my favorite torrent search site. I think it's complete bullshit that they're doing that, but I don't think there's anything I can do to force them to stop. If I wasn't forced to pay for it, I would just get my own internet service. I can't set up port forwarding because I don't have admin access to the router, so I think a VPN is my only option. I can set up VPN passthrough in my router and I'll run qBittorrent on a different computer than my Plex Media Server.

What I need to know is whether or not a VPN will get blocked by the property management company's firewall. I doubt they would block VPN tunneling altogether, because of people working from home, but maybe it would block WireGuard. I don't want to pay for a VPN if it won't work. If I can't use WireGuard, should I still get Mullvad or is there a better option?

<p>Update: I was able to get torrents working with a VPN, although not as well as I would like. Apparently, the firewall is blocking WireGuard, so I have to use OpenVPN on port 443. When I tried using WireGuard, it would only stay connected for a few minutes. I didn&#39;t get Mullvad because I was able to upgrade my proxy account to a VPN account and just pay a little over $6 for the year. When it expires, I&#39;ll probably switch to Mullvad.</p>

I did some Googling and came across ExpressVPN. Wondering if anyone has used them and recommend? Or is there another good VPN to consider?

Private Internet Access here. NordVPN isn't too bad either when it comes to speeds. I've used both here for years, and no, they aren't free.

So I just switched from private Internet access, due to them having a legalese beating around the bush no logging policy and no audit since being purchased by its new owner.   

I have no complaints towards any of the servers or reliability of them since the switch, however I do have to say in comparison that the UI is complete and utter garbage in comparison. The application lacks usage statistics/current speeds for easy access, which is my biggest complaint, however it does also lack the ability to Shadowsocks and just isn’t as user-friendly as private Internet access. But at the end of the day I would rather go with the company who I don’t feel will stab me in the back or hasn’t been delivered the fisa warrant. Overall the UI is less user-friendly and Uglier thus im whining
