 They're not cheap the KM-84s the original KM-84s aren't going to be cheap because guys that have them have had them a long time and they know the value of these things and they know what they can do to records and they know what they can actually do their songs just by having them in their arsenal. Same goes with the 85s however it seems to be that you do see the KM-85 sitting around you've got to find their KM-85s cheaper. So basically the KM-85 was designed to reduce the proximity effect it has the low roll off about 12 db at 50 hertz probably wouldn't want to get up too close to these things. The KM-85s were designed for the outside speaking so the low rumble that would come with the wind and stuff like that the reason they made these and they put the roll off into the into the capsule was just to take that eliminate that issue instead of designing a whole new microphone they just did it in the capsule and basically shipped them out to the people that wanted them

 So for people that want to buy a KM-84 an original one you're going to have to do a little bit searching because there's you know a lot of guys don't let these go unless they're folding up their studios or these things break and they're irreparable. They're relatively hard to find so you've got to be lucky you've got to be on the lookout and if you're the right time to buy jump on these things.  A lot of orchestral pieces will have these guys sitting on them. They're also really really good and they're world-class actually a lot of guys will argue the fact that these are the best drum overheads of all. So if you have these guys hanging around put them to use because they're actually a phenomenal microphone. They have an interchangeable capsule you know nothing too fancy really

 In fact, I love this microphone I think it's fantastic But let me go ahead and tell you a couple pros and cons and really who this microphone would shine for The first pro that I have for this is the fact that it is a very flat microphone On the frequency chart, it's mostly flat the whole way through aside from like a very minor 1 to 2 decibel boost in the high end That is a very big thing that I love about this microphone is I do think it sounds good right out of the box I think it sounds great right now But also, it's a blank slate You can do whatever you want with it and it fits a lot of people's voices because of that It's not accenting the high end too much. It's not doing too much or too little in the bass area It just sounds really good and it sounds flat and you can make different adjustments for different people's voices And so you just have this very moldable canvas when it comes to the NT1 That's one reason I love using it on singers I like using it on my own voice I feel like you can really get this microphone to shine for a lot of different people's voices Another pro is that all of this is built super well I know what you're saying like, hey dude, you literally said that you had 2 fail on you Yeah, but I feel like that was my doing and I'm not trying to make excuses Like, I don't think you understand how often I just threw it in my backpack, was good to go Like, let's go record at this random location, let's do this It took some abuse So I feel like if you take care of it, this thing could last a very long time Maybe forever I do feel like there are a lot of beginners that are scared to spend over $200, $250 on a microphone But dude, if you are a beginner, I absolutely recommend buying this microphone first and foremost It was one of the first microphones that I ever bought and I use the hell out of it and I love it I stand by it today still loving it And honestly, a big pro for me is the price $269 for a Rycote shock mount that is awesome A fantastically built microphone and a pop filter that works incredibly And a stand adapter and an adorable dust cover $269 for this quality plus all of those things I think that's outstanding, I think that is a very good deal You know, I just really don't have many cons for this microphone I mean, yeah, I had two fail on me, but they were already used I beat the shit out of them So if you try hard enough, you can break any microphone Not that I was trying, but I didn't help myself One thing I will say is this is a great microphone for music production I think it is a great microphone for singers I think this is a very good voiceover microphone And honestly, I think that this would be good for podcasting But here's the thing though The background noise rejection on this microphone just isn't good But that makes sense given the fact that it's a condenser microphone This is a highly sensitive microphone And so me banging on a keyboard not far from it It's gonna pick it up So if you are a podcaster or YouTuber Or anyone that needs a microphone that's gonna be moving stuff around I don't know if this microphone is for you In that scenario, I would probably recommend a dynamic microphone But if you are going to just be sitting there podcasting Sitting there voiceovering Overing Voice-overing? Is that what it is? Doing a voiceover Or you're singing I think that this would be an outstanding product As far as instrument recordings go with this microphone I haven't always gotten stellar results immediately But because this is a flat microphone I have always been able to EQ it the way that I want to And always get it sitting really well in the mix Basically what I'm saying is that I love this microphone I think it is awesome I think it is well worth the money And I think that if you're a beginner And you haven't bought a microphone yet Consider saving up If you're a beginner that's bought a $100 microphone Consider getting this as an upgrade And if you just love microphones Get this microphone I've just had really good experiences with it And it sounded really good on a lot of different people's voices So if I didn't spell it out perfectly enough for you The letter grade that I give The Rode NT1 Is a letter grade of an A plus Yeah! Rode NT1 Condenser Microphone Review

Purchased this microphone brand new and have only used it a handful of times. In the beginning it sounded amazing and I’ve always made sure to handle and store the microphone with the upmost of care. Less than 6 months in and out of nowhere, the noise floor became absolutely atrocious.

 I contacted customer service to file a claim, since it should be covered under the 1 year factory warranty, and was informed to ship the microphone back to their California facility for repairs. I was also informed that the shipment back to their facility would not be covered, only repairs and the shipment back, so I am left paying a $75 UPS bill to ship a defective microphone back to them to fix. Look, I understand if they can’t cover every repair shipment under their 10 year warranty, but I’ve had this microphone for less than 6 months. I was also informed that they had to replace the capsule, so it was obvious this was a factory defect

..so I don’t understand why I should be responsible for shipping it back to them for repairs. This whole experience had made me second guess ever purchasing another Rode product in the future, especially when I hear other people are having the same issues with the noise floor for the NT1 and they’re still claiming that it is the quietest microphone of its class

 Less than 6 months in and out of nowhere, the noise floor became absolutely atrocious...to the point where there was no point to record with it because all you hear is static and pops

Customer service is lacking

 I have blue switches on my keyboard which are very loud if you know what I mean. But this is what the mic picks up while I'm typing and talking at the same time. I think it's crazy. I've been loving this sound card for quite some time now

 The weight and the feel of this microphone give away that it's solid metal. And an I love Rode sticker which I have no idea what I'm gonna do with but it's funny. A little dust cover pouch which isn't the highest quality ever. Opening up the package I instantly recognize the high quality that Rode also uses on their VideoMic Pro microphones

 Next tighten the screws to make it all level. Perfect. Okay now connecting the XLR to my Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 audio interface. Also a very important note is that this microphone is an XLR cardioid condenser microphone like I said before
