MSR Pocket Rocket vs Soto WindMaster Stove with 4Flex

Super durable, super cheap, super handy. I love the MSR pocket rocket 2 stove, but maybe you're riding with someone else who already has one, so no need to invest? MSR pots and pans are also top quality products, and they surprisingly don't cost a lot.

Both stoves have good flame regulating and solid builds. For me, the efficient boil in breezy camps with a piezo starter still make this a keeper but minus a star for the separate setup supports.

This resulted in a bit more loss of fuel. What the pocket rocket saves in weight in minimal as you will need another fire source to light the stove, but you carry that anyway. So.

and so I have not used a pots where I've needed to have that much surface area to be able to keep the pot on so keeping the weight down I Do just use ...

I got this stove so I could have two burners (the PoRo2 and my Dragonfly) when car-camping, without having to lug a two-burner stove. We tend to fly to our destinations, then rent a car; keeping luggage weight and bulk down is an advantage. The tiny Pocket Rocket 2 could fit in a coffee cup.

Also it is very quiet. Packs away with one small fuel canister in a Stanley Adventure Cook Pot alright. Quick tip: pre warm the fuel canister before use with your body heat for best performance at lower temps.

Second: There is only full blast, or below a simmer. The Pocket Rocket 2 that I received sprays flame or has none. No amount of adjusting changes this. I am hoping that what I received is a faulty product, or the minimum standard passable by any quality control

its never fun to boil water when your stove wants to rock back and forth! MSR please come out with a better design. Hint simple is better.

I tested out my new Soto WindMaster Stove this past weekend in the Mountains and I am in LOVE. I used the stove mainly to heat water to make coffee, and hydrate meals for one person. It's lightweight, incredibly easy to use, and packs up beautifully inside my Snow peak titanium trek 700 mug.

I just picked up mine today, I love it great size, great flame control, and great pot support. Great buy you will not be disappointed.

But I settled on the Soto because it seemed just a hair more versatile and here's why:

After buying both and comparing side by side, I chose the Pocket Rocket 2 because of its superior build quality and ability to hold larger cook pots with ease. The Lixada seemed so small and flimsy compared to the PR2 that I immediately felt I wouldn't want to cook on something that small. Fits into my cook kit without its plastic storage case (Toaks 1100 pot and lid with a Toaks 550 cup which nests with enough room for a GSI outdoor drip coffee maker between the pots and a 100 gram fuel canister in the cup) The old pocket rocket could not fit into that pot and cup combo

Ultimately the biggest downside of the Windmaster: It is a "huge" stove. With the 4Flex it becomes a solid rectangular cube in regards to storage dimensions. Even without the 4Flex pot support, the Stormbreaker is the tallest stove I own (next to the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe and Kovea V1 which seem like clones) and it has the fairly wide (for a modern, non side burner) burner head (just like the MSR PRD and Kovea V1). It also means the pot sits a little higher than if it were to be on a Snow Peak Gigapower or other designs but it does it better than the MSR PRD and Kovea V1 which have even taller pot supports
