hey there I need to get a new rear tire and im debating between the Maxxis ardent in a 2.4, the Maxxis Rekon 2.4, and the Maxxis aggressor 2.3. my bike is 130 front 130 rear so I do a large variety of riding but I end up doing a lot of road riding in-between trails because I live on an island near seattle and we don't have the best mountain bike trails unless you go off island. which one would you suggest for that? I can't decide. thanks!

rear tire suggestion?

  Update: I have had this rear tire on for a year now. It still has adequate tread. Note that I ride only about 20 miles a week and rarely does the tire touch asphalt. I remain overly satisfied with this tire

 When I recieved the tire I immediately mounted it tubeless,using some Stans Sealant. The bead set really well. I was on the local single tracks about an hour later. Here where I live in PA, we have a variety of trail conditions and this tire held up well on all of them

Great all around mountain tire

Something like Maxxis Aggressor or Minion SS in cheap versions. I commute 13km one way and I put a bit more pressure in than normal. That was good enough for me. No hassle to swap wheels etc

Second pair of beater wheels for commuting?

 I can't imagine it will be any worse than my Minion SS, but I'll update with that info later. Regardless, this will definitely be my rear tire of choice from now on.

 There is a super slight increase in rolling resistance versus the Minion SS, but this comes with very marked improvement in uphill grip, and even more braking improvement. I was literally blown away the first time I braked in loose stuff at speed with this tire - I almost couldn't get the rear wheel to lock up. All this with no loss in cornering proficiency. Durability is also fantastic

 I previously had a Minion SS and honestly didn't think I could do much better. I was sacrificing a little grip both uphill and while braking, but it rolled and cornered so well I didn't mind. It was a tough sell for me to buy this tire honestly, but I decided to give it a try for this price.

Best Rear Tire on the Market?

Love these! I've put nearly 300 miles on them so far, and they are barely shoeing wear. I ride very hard and rely heavily on the traction of my tires. These are even more enjoyable than my maxxis high roller 2 (and I've beat the ish out of those!) the extra weight on the tires is absolutely worth it. In my sloppy line choices down hill through gnarly, tire shredding rocks, these sidewalls still are not leaking fluid out of them and they are holding pressure perfectly! They popped on my easton arc 30 rim so tightly and so easy! I plan on ordering another set for my emergency gear stock pile! I would love to see maxxis offer a 2

With that rim size anything over 28mm wide will fit fine. Tire quality and tread pattern matter more than width or weight for casual riding. How if Possible Can I change my Tires to a Smaller faster tire on my bike?

 This is a set of these tires I've got fitted to my bike, you can see a nice tread pattern on it. All the way around, trying to get it up good but you can see a quite large tire, doesn't look too bad on my wheels and there's still plenty of clearance. In between this and my Fox forks, I've got a little custom made mudguard I've stuck on a few zip tires. Let's see, there's still plenty of space between the tire and the fork

Schwalbe Big Apple 2 35

 Hi this is Mark's Cycle Repairs, a quick look at the Schwaball Big Apple 2.35 tires.

 This is a set of these tires I've got fitted to my bike, you can see a nice tread pattern

 on it. All the way around, trying to get it up good but you can see a quite large tire,

 doesn't look too bad on my wheels and there's still plenty of clearance. In between this

 and my Fox forks, I've got a little custom made mudguard I've stuck on a few zip tires.

 Let's see, there's still plenty of space between the tire and the fork. So no problems fitting

 them on any sort of suspension. The advantage of being a lot wider is you can run a lot

 lower pressure, so I ride these on the road at 35psi which takes up a lot more of the

 bumps and makes the ride even smoother. And obviously being bigger they're very easy to

 fit and with this reflector light, the reflector strip all the way around makes it quite good.

If you want some puncture protection and can fit a 48-50 wide tire, I would totally go for the 20 x 2.0" Schwalbe Big Apples with the racer skin sidewalls. I used them on the triplet for years. Relatively supple tire that never got a flat over 5 years of family riding

As the title says, I dislike Marathons. Yes, I realize they are best-in-class puncture resistance, but I hate how they ride and I find them overkill for puncture resistance for my normal urban cycling. On my bike with 700c wheels I've been riding Paselas for years because I love their combination of good-enough puncture resistance and ride quality. 

With that in mind, what tires do you recommend that have *good* puncture resistance, but that also ride nice?
