 I have a Les Paul with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. The DiMarzio is very bassy and has low treble naturally so I have to turn the treble and presence way up. On Channel 1 Red mode I have the Bass at 3 o clock, Mids are maxed and Treble is at 3 o clock. Presence is at 3 o clock and the Resonance is at 12 o clock

..which was what I was after. You must have a noise gate though! I don't even use the red mode of Channel 2 as it's way too gainy

 For the Tube screamer, I have the drive and volume maxed and the tone maxed. This basically sounds like Randy Rhoads type distortion..

This Marshall amp can do almost everything just short of a JVM

 This is Ultra Gain One [Music] Matthew [Music] So it's highly compressed, but it's really got that Marshall Grind [Music] Now it has Ultra Gain 2, so I'll engage that and see if there's much difference. [Music] Yeah, that is actually quite a bit different. It's really squishy and it feels like an amp that's starting to sag and it's starting to lose no definition. [Music] Yeah, it's It's lost a bit of that top end clarity

 Ultra Gain 2 sounds like it's It's like a master Gain amplifier that's absolutely cranked and it's starting to become really sort of spongy and squishy. [Music] I've just engaged the tone shift, which scoops out a lot of mid-range and leaves you with a really sort of scooped metal sound from the sort of late 80s early 90s. [music] [applause] [music] [applause] [music] [applause] The Marshall Dsl40 is an excellent pedal platform, and to demonstrate this, I'm going to use the classic Old Digitech Bad Monkey, which I'm going to use through the Classic Gain Crunch channel. I'm going to demonstrate that with both single coils and humbuckers

 This is without the Bad Monkey [Music] and this is with it. [Music] Let's show the Bad Monkey now with humbuckers. this is with it off. [Applause] Um [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Yeah, it definitely helps to focus that sound and make it a bit more sort of mid-rich and take away some of the um, really present, uh, upper mids when it comes to the ultra gain setting

Marshall DSL40CR: The Most Versatile Marshall

 So it's a real gigable sort of amp, really, it's one of those desert island amps, really does a little bit of everything. It's very versatile, you can freely switch to anything on the fly with a pedal as well. And we've given it a bit of a speaker upgrade as well, we're using a Celestion V-tine now, which is a real sweet sort of rich sounding speaker. So if you like, we'll just go into some of the sounds and we'll start off on channel one on the clean

 Okay, so this is the DSL 40 combo, again with all DSL it's all valve, so we've got ECC83 preamp valves in this, and we've got a pair of two EL34s, so we can run it at 40 watt or on low mode, drop it to roughly half power, two channels, like I say, reverb. What's really cool about the new DSL, which was one of the old ones, is we've got the two master volumes now, so anybody who remembers the old ones, there wasn't a master volume at all, you had a channel volume for each of the channels. So we've got two master volumes, so the point of having two is you can obviously set your normal master level, have a second one to give you a boost on it. Like for a solo or lead set, something like that

 And we've given it a bit of a speaker upgrade as well, we're using a Celestion V-tine now, which is a real sweet sort of rich sounding speaker. So if you like, we'll just go into some of the sounds and we'll start off on channel one on the clean. Here we go. Let's do it

Marshall DSL40CR 40W 1x12 Combo with Reverb - Demo & Tone Test

 Because you have you have the clean and crunch on the classic game channel and only one OD to an ultra gain basically so that was cool and it comes with a footswitch for switching between those settings was which works great I Like this ability to. there's not many apps that can do a really nice gain and clean. I guess it's hard like those speakers are always kind of voiced in the middle, but this it does that. really kind of sparkly fender

 It didn't do as well at at high volume or gig like it'll work, but it doesn't. It doesn't feel like it wants to be at that power output and it does kind of it. I Don't know if I smell like the speaker burning, you know whatnot, but it just felt like it might something might break. He didn't seems comfortable doing that as like a more traditional Marshall The only other main cons that the emulated out sounds pretty bad

 Sounds good at low volume like practice volume but if you crank it. I Found that I had almost no trouble and no bass. Barely any, barely any presence residents. Definitely off if it's cranked and I just used the mids

 The footswitch works with it well for the four channels the app will recall if you had the loop on or off for each individual channel as you switch between them. it will also recall which master volume you have assigned to that channel or sub channel. Because you have you have the clean and crunch on the classic game channel and only one OD to an ultra gain basically so that was cool and it comes with a footswitch for switching between those settings was which works great I Like this ability to. there's not many apps that can do a really nice gain and clean

Marshall DSL40CR Demo & Review

 To the two Ultra Gain channels work exactly the same way. You can choose a master for either mode and the amp automatically remembers your last choice. Next to Master Two, you can see that there is an effects loop on and off switch, so the effects loop is also assignable. Promote in the same way that the Master Volume is how it works is that it remembers the last setting you used per mode and you said it once and there it is

 You can tell that by the green light, press the Master Select button and you get Master Volume two. Staying in the Classic channel, we're gonna select the Crunch mode. you can tell by the red light there and you can also see that that chooses Master One. Now when we go back to the Clean mode, we're back to Master

 they each have their own master volume, etc. etc. You see where this is going anyway. What it really gives you is another level of flexibility

Marshall DSL CR Combo Amps Review

 Even though I'm not that sort of player, it does everything from really, really nice. Strat cleans all the way through to chunky heavy tones. And what I love about this amp is the way the EQ system works. It works really well with in conjunction with the channels

My Marshall DSL40CR Guitar Amplifier Review

 So I traded that out and brought this one home and it had a rattle in the power - and one of the power tubes. So what I ended up doing was replacing the power tubes guitar center where I bought it was super cool. GC Pro is an awesome program and so they were awesome and worked with me. Got me some new tubes and I replaced those and everything's been great so far

 it's two different voicings. But to me if I can get a button on the floor and it changes the sound entirely, that's a new channel and I have control over that a little bit. that's a new channel. So this is a 4-channel amp for me and so you've also got the effects loop button here will toggle the effects that on and off and that's handy

 You also get like 40 miles of cable with this with this pedal so you can safely place your amp across the street and gig from your seat at the bar. I Guess that's the that's the switch. It plugs into a nice and obvious white nutted yeah in the back. So amp is on and as we as you can see, I'll hit that and that changes our channel

 Here's how they work: so I would go against what people say when people say turn those masters all the way up dude. I Mean that's the only way to get the right sound out of Sam I Wouldn't agree with that I Think that's one school of thought, sure, but that if you want that, just get an older model of DSL You don't need this one with the master volumes because you're not using them, you're just maxing them out. That's what used to be going on. So basically your tone

It's amazing though with killer sound, tons of function, built like a tank, and prettier than any furniture I own. I adore this amp.

I currently have an Orange Crush 20RT that I may have to replace in the near future. It’s starting to have some issues, and it would probably cost more than it’s worth to fix them. Overall, I enjoy the amp and the tones I get from it, but I’m wondering what others might recommend. I’m still a novice player and am still learning a lot, but I don’t want to have a crap amp.

While I’m learning, I’ve found myself playing along to a lot of blues backing tracks and really enjoy that. Eventually, I want to be able to play more rock and hard rock. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to the point where I can play their songs, but Some of my favorites are Aerosmith, Metallica, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, AC/DC, Black Label Society, Foo Fighters, and other similar bands.

I only play at home, so I don’t need anything that gets super loud. I’ve never had the 20RT more than half-way up.

I also don’t need a lot of effects in it. I had a Line6 Spider before, and there were too many options. Something with two channels that I can put my handful of pedals (OD, distortion, chorus, and delay) through is perfect.

Since I do play through headphones at times, I like having an Aux In port.

I would say my budget is around the $250 mark, plus or minus a little.

Edit: I’m 45 and just really getting started. I’m only going to play at home for myself. I don’t need something for gigging in the future. I don’t need top of the line. I just need a good sounding, solid practice amp for playing at home.
