If we come and look at the knobs before we start playing you'll see a blues breaker basically the the cool bit over here is volume one and volume two are two very slightly different preamp sections and what many guitar players of the time would do is what's called diming which is where my guitar is plugged in here into input one and then we jump a lead from input one to input two so actually I can drive you know both channels simultaneously if I want to and get it you know this is the sort of the the brighter of the two this is the darker of the two and you can blend the two together we've got a bass middle and treble control a presence control and a tremolo sort of section or vibrato section and that's the kind of cool vintage pedal that comes with it to turn the tremolo on and off so there we go I think we should just hear it so Mm-hm. Mm-hm

 What's up guys, it's Paul from Guitar World and now when it comes to classic clean and chorus tones Nothing is going to beat the legendary Roland JC 120 amplifier Now Roland has introduced a new model in that legendary line. It's a smaller model It sounds just as good and just as rich the Roland jazz chorus 40 JC 40. Let's check it out You You You You You You You You You You You You The Roland jazz chorus 40 or otherwise known as the JC 40 is a great new addition to the Roland JC 120 line of amplifiers. It still has all the classic clean and chorus tones, but in a smaller Portable package with 10-inch speakers 40 watts you can get just about any sound that you've always loved from the JC 120 in the JC 40 definitely check this out

 Finally, we have an onboard reverb, and in this case it's a digital reverb, but Roland has really effectively recreated the sound of a spring. Here's what the reverb at 25% we can bring that up, make the signal wetter. We get that nice springy sound of a spring reverb. gives us a nice tail on the end and has that bloom that a spring reverb provides as well

 I've turned the modulation effects off so we're getting the dry sound. I'm going to bring the distortion up to 25% Here's what it sounds like at 50% and here's what: The distortion all the way up. So having that distortion on board gives us a lot of variety to our tone. We can add in just a little bit of grit

 We've got bass, mid, and treble controls for shaping the sound, and we also have onboard distortion. Now let's listen to what the distortion sounds like. I've turned the modulation effects off so we're getting the dry sound. I'm going to bring the distortion up to 25% Here's what it sounds like at 50% and here's what: The distortion all the way up

 For today's demo, I'm playing a Gibson Memphis ES 330, which is a hollow body guitar with P90 pickups. Here's the dry sound that comes out of one of the speakers in a JC 40. You can hear the JC 40 like all the jazz chorus amps, has a very pure, uncoloured neutral tone. This makes it great for straight guitar playing, but it also makes it a great platform for effects pedals

 But the JC-120 is so pure and clean that it is the perfect amp for any guitarist who already uses external effects (like a POD or separate pedals). I no longer even use the built in reverb and chorus (though both are top notch) mostly because I play through a Pod XT Live, and my sounds already have reverb and such built in.  If you're looking for the purest clean sounds that bring out the full range of tones from your guitar, you can't go wrong. A classic that survives the times

 The built in chorus is legendary, it can be heard on many famous songs, some reggae (Sublime to Bob Marley) and some get very heavy (Metallica). The distortion should be called "drive" or "boost", it helps boost my tube screamer but that's about all. If you use more pedals and do not use a looper I could see how it would take some tone out. Look into a solid programmable looper if you have 6-8 or more pedals

. Here is why: Before trying this amplifier I used a Bad Cat Cougar 50 in my Texas Reggae band. The tube amp was a little too much for what we were trying to do so I bought a Jc120. This amp gave us the sound we had been looking for
