Trackball technology may seem old-fashioned, but modern trackball mice provide a comfortable, ergonomic alternative to more conventional designs. If you're interested in a work-oriented trackball option, the Logitech MX ERGO is the best we've tested. It feels very well-made and is ideal for a palm grip for all hand sizes. There's also an included metal tilt plate that you can use to angle the mouse halfway between a customary palm-down position and a handshake position.

This mouse sits stationary on your desk and has a pair of standard left- and right-click buttons, a scroll wheel with horizontal scrolling inputs, and a large trackball for your thumb to control the cursor. You can connect it wirelessly via Bluetooth or a USB receiver and pair it wirelessly with up to two devices at the same time. Logitech advertises this mouse has a full-charge battery life of around four months.

Unfortunately, the design is bulky, and the unusual shape makes it an unlikely candidate for travel use. Also, the scroll wheel lacks a free-scrolling mode, which is unusual considering it's a staple feature for other mice in Logitech's exclusive MX productivity mouse lineup. Altogether, this mouse is a great design if you have limited desk space or want a more ergonomic option to reduce the strain on your body using a mouse for a long period.

The best mouse for MacBook Pro with a trackball we've tested is the Logitech MX ERGO. It has a right-handed shape and a trackball on the left designed for use with your thumb. This mouse is fairly large and heavy, but it remains stationary when you use it, which can prevent some of the wrist strain associated with more conventional mice you have to move across a desk.

It feels very sturdy and connects wirelessly with its USB receiver or Bluetooth. You can also pair it wirelessly with two devices simultaneously and switch between them using the button behind the scroll wheel. Unlike many similar trackball mice with a rotating ring around the trackball for scrolling, this mouse has a conventional scroll wheel. It also has left- and right-tilt inputs for horizontal scrolling.

Unfortunately, the scroll wheel doesn't unlock for a free-scrolling mode, which can be disappointing if you frequently work with long documents or web pages. Additionally, this mouse has a low, fixed polling rate, meaning it isn't a suitable choice for gaming after the workday is done. All in all, this mouse is a great choice if you also use your MacBook Pro at home and prefer a more ergonomic trackball design.

If you're looking for a trackball mouse, look no further than the Logitech MX ERGO. It features a right-handed slanted design with a trackball on the left side under your thumb to move the cursor. It's a stationary mouse, so its design reduces wrist strain during those long workdays since you don't need to use wrist or arm movements to control it.

It feels very well-built and solid, and there's also a pinky rest, so none of your fingers should hang awkwardly off the edge of the mouse. It connects wirelessly using its USB receiver or via Bluetooth, and it uses a rechargeable battery for power. Unlike other trackball mice that use a ring around the trackball for scrolling, this mouse has a more typical-looking scroll wheel with L/R tilts for easy horizontal navigation through spreadsheets or video timelines. There are left- and right-click buttons and a conventional scroll wheel on the right side, and a large trackball on the left. There's also a metal plate attachment that tilts the mouse 20&ordm; to the right, so your hand posture is somewhere between a handshake and a more traditional palm-down position.

Like other products in Logitech's MX lineup, it feels very well-built and sturdy, but the materials and finish don't feel quite as premium as those of the Logitech MX Master 3, for example. You can connect this mouse wirelessly using its USB receiver or via Bluetooth, and it has a rechargeable battery for power. Logitech advertises a battery life of up to four months. You can pair two devices simultaneously and switch between them using the dedicated device switching button behind the scroll wheel.

Unfortunately, while the scroll wheel has L/R tilt buttons for horizontal scrolling, it doesn't unlock for a quicker free-scrolling mode, which is disappointing if you frequently deal with long documents or web pages. Also, while it has robust companion software to program buttons and adjust CPI settings, there's no option to increase the polling rate, which isn't high enough to produce smooth cursor movements for gaming. Altogether, this is a very ergonomic and customizable option for everyday browsing or productivity work.

Despite these minor inconveniences, we think the Logitech MX Ergo is a superb trackball mouse for anyone willing to give it a chance.

 Also on the side you get a precision button that allows you to get more precise when using the trackball so when you have that on you also get an LED indicator showing it is currently turned on. At the bottom of the MX Ergo we get an on and off switch and a micro USB port for charging which you get a micro USB cable supplied in the box as well. Now the MX Ergo at first glance looks like a very comfortable trackball which to be honest after using it for several days it sure is comfortable. It has a soft and sort of rubbery top to place your hand on with a slight curve to rest your pinky on on the side of it

 It has a nice ergonomic design aka the name Ergo so when placing your hand, whether you have a large hand or small hand, it will feel comfortable.  Unlike many similar trackball mice with a rotating ring around the trackball for scrolling, this mouse has a conventional scroll wheel. It also has left- and right-tilt inputs for horizontal scrolling.

The shape of this mouse is perfect. The tilt up metal plate works great. Imo this is the only thumb ball mouse I'd consider. Almost perfect

 Clad in grey, with a silver bottom plate and a silver trackball that vaguely evokes the constellations in the night sky, the MX Ergo looks great on a desk. Sure, it's not very colorful, but you're likely to be using it next to a grey or black keyboard, as well as a dark-colored laptop or display, so it probably won't clash as much as, say, the fiery red ball on the Trackman. That the MX Ergo looks so good is fortunate, because at its $100 list price, it's bordering on status symbol territory, especially since you can find several very good mice for half that price.

 A full battery lasts up to four months, Logitech says, while one minute of charge results in a full day of use.

 (Because of a marketing gimmick, to get the full 30 degrees of tilt, you have to buy the MX Ergo Plus, only available at Best Buy(Opens in a new window) and otherwise identical to the MX Ergo I tested, which offers just 20 degrees of tilt). The tilted orientation was the most comfortable for me, and while the tendons that pass through your carpal tunnel are still flexing in order for you to move your thumb, they're nowhere near as constricted as they would be if you were using a regular mouse with your wrist parallel to your desk. This only applies to right-handed people; the MX Ergo doesn't come in a left-handed version. In addition to tilting the mouse, the magnetic stand can also be removed, which allows you to pop out the trackball for cleaning

 The pointer and middle fingers move the cursor, while the thumb and ring fingers perform clicks, instead of the other way around on a mouse. If Logitech wanted to sell a trackball to people who like using a mouse but want to reduce wrist strain, it was going to have to come up with a new design.

 As this is an AMD CPU, there is no thunderbolt. Overall, 8/10 for the IO(minus 2 for the lack of DP over USB-C).

 The battery lasts 8 hours streaming 1080p video, and about 14 doing light work such as discord. Do keep in mind, however, I keep my brightness low and turn the backlight off. It would still be an easy 5-6hrs video playback and 10hrs light work with all that on, however. Overall, I would give it a 9/10, very, very impressed

A pretty bog-standard trackpad. Other than the fact that it is made of glass, it is unremarkable and just does its job. I personally disable the trackpad on all my machines and use my MX Ergo instead, but as far as trackpads go, it is not half bad. 6/10

  5) The scroll wheel. It's rubberized, with traction marks, to make it more reliable to roll, which is nice. It also has a left and right angling settings, purportedly for scrolling left and right via the wheel too. However, using these left or right scroll wheel clicks, WITHOUT also scrolling up or down somewhat, seems nigh impossible, and certainly isn't highly convenient

 Clearly a higher quality build, with attention to tactile sensation and practicality.  1) It's very heavy, because of the new pad. One of the primary flaws with the M570 was the 4 little rubber feet on the bottom, that inevitably came unglued, and had to be re-improvised: so a full bottom, rubbery traction surface is very welcome. And it may be neat that it's magnetic, but the pad's weight is easily half or more of the whole mouse

 They're longer and shallower than before, and seem to make a little click each time you rub your finger across them, which is extremely minute, but an annoyance nonetheless. All mice should have these buttons.  5) The scroll wheel. It's rubberized, with traction marks, to make it more reliable to roll, which is nice

It looks nice, the body is higher quality

 - If you use Bluetooth, then expect to lose your USB dongle because Logitech failed to provide a storage space for it. - Bad placement of forward/back buttons - Did I mention no storage space for USB dongle?  DETAILED REVIEW: The Logitech MX Ergo is smaller than my beloved Trackball Optical, but still comfortable in my large hand. I don't work in Linux much, but it would be nice to Linux support is SERIOUSLY lacking. It does offer basic functionality on Linux, but without Logitech Options, many of the coolest features, like customizable macros, don't work
