Like many others here, I have absolutely loved this pedal. But my second one just crapped out on me, and I’m really surprised Line 6 hasn’t improved the overall quality of this product, given its popularity. I mean, come on - it’s housed in a heavy duty metal box; but all the inner workings are incredibly cheap: those stomp buttons?? If you open one of these things up, the stomp buttons simply depress a piece of metal attached to the circuit board. It’s the piece that gets the most wear and tear - and it’s horribly designed

A Frustrating Product

 Plus, I have more repeats on it, and I also have it set up in a way where I'm using it for a more textural kind of vibe. So this is when it gets more of a psychedelic vibe, and I'm trying to create, or maybe even improvise a certain mood. I've used to do this a lot in the more jam band kind of gigs that I used to do. What I'm going to do in this one is I'm going to show you another effect that I like a lot

 And if you look down, you can see that it's set at an analog delay. I've got the tap tempo going and you'll hear those repeats. And what it does is it just kind of adds an elasticity to your lead tone and it's not like super psychedelic. A lot of like Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson and so many others, they like to have a little bit of just a little bit of echo on their lead guitar and country guitar players do that as well

 So that's another thing that's really cool about it and the other feature that this pedal has which I've seen people use is it has a built-in looper. You have to actually put it into the looper setting mode but you can actually create loops and jam over it and I used to do that with this pedal before I went and bought my own standalone looper pedal. Now the benefit of having your own looper pedal as opposed to using the Line 6 for your loops is the Line 6 I believe only does like 11 seconds long of a loop whereas you know standard looper pedals can go for minutes and minutes and minutes. So you know it depends on what you're what you want to use it for but the actual length of looper for this DL4 is not very long but it does have a looper built into it so that's really fun as well and you know it's hours and hours of fun and creativity and I've had I think this is the third one I've had I used to use them for gigs all the time and kind of stomped on them too hard but you know very versatile effect pedal to add to your arsenal once you've got a nice overdrive that you've picked out

 Hey what's up you guys Marty Schwartz here and welcome to another one of my Thursday

 In this video we're going to be covering the Line 6 DL4.

 As you can see it's the really cool green color in Green Goblin.

 But this DL4 you've probably, man I see this delay modeler in probably more Rockstars pedal

 So I figured it was a good one to cover.

 Now it's really easy to use, that's one of the great things about it.

 You've got a lot of different digital delay modeling effects.

 And what's really cool is you can kind of tweak in different sounds and when you like,

 when you get a sound that you really like, you've got three presets and what's so simple

 about it is when you get a sound you like and you want to be sure to save it, you just

 hold down one of the three presets, you hold it down, it flashes and now it's there until

 So that's one of the cool things about this pedal is the ease of use.

 When you pull it out of the box, the factory presets on it are already dialed in to some

 I'm not going to go through every single sound of this pedal, but I'm going to show you like

 probably like my four, I haven't decided yet, but I'm going to show you my kind of top effects

 The first one that I use it for is just a straight up delay for lead guitar sound.

 So for that, I try and get what's been told to me by pros out there, one and a half repeats.

 So when you hear it, you're going to boom, boom, boom.

 So it's like you get one strong repeat or echo and then one more that's just kind of

 So you call that one and a half repeats.

 The other thing about this pedal that's really cool is it has a tap tempo.

 So when you're grooving out to something, you can tap to the tempo and the repeats or

 the echoes are going to go along with it.

 So the first tone I'm going to show you, I already have it set here.

 And if you look down, you can see that it's set at an analog delay.

 I've got the tap tempo going and you'll hear those repeats.

 And what it does is it just kind of adds an elasticity to your lead tone and it's not

 So let's listen to the lead guitar tone that I have set up right now and have a little

 The next setting that I use is a digital delay, but with a really cool psychedelic filter

 Plus, I have more repeats on it, and I also have it set up in a way where I'm using it

 So this is when it gets more of a psychedelic vibe, and I'm trying to create, or maybe even

 I've used to do this a lot in the more jam band kind of gigs that I used to do.

 So you're going to hear that it's got a cool trailing envelope filter with the delays.

 The other thing that's cool about this particular one, this is the one in, I don't know if you've

 ever seen anyone playing live, where they reach down and they start to tweak with the

 knobs, you know, the tweaker by the speaker.

 Anyway, you can, with this one, is really fun because of the way the filter is set.

 You can just tweak these knobs, and in fact, one's called tweak, and one's called tweeze,

 and when I play this one, I'm going to do just some kind of psychedelic stuff, but then

 I'm going to reach down and start turning those knobs, and you're just going to hear

 this crazy space explosion kind of sound.

 So it's great for, you know, you never want to overuse something like this, but it's great

 for just mixing things up and doing something that's kind of unexpected and adventurous.

 So this is the digital delay with the kind of envelope filter on top of it.

 So the next one I'm going to show you is my third preset that I have in it right now,

 So not only do we get echoes and, you know, classic delays, but there's a really cool

 So you tap in the tempo of a groove, and then you start playing, and it'll actually play
