From the brilliant colors of the reef to the dark recesses behind the swarms of sharks I saw the same themes: an overall edge to the OLED TVs despite the TCL's brighter image. Netflix's nature documentary didn't show as much HDR punch and detail as the reference disc in general, and for that reason the TCL's brilliance didn't make as much of an impact

 The main “ENTER button is awkward because it has a scroll function on it (for scrolling on internet and “quick scroll for channels) and it should be placed higher up on the device (ergonomically speaking). Remote is a bit small for my hand and I am not a man. I have yet to find a “last channel” button :-( It has a RETURN button, but it doesn’t do what I would expect. And you have to go to another screen or channel up or down to view “program info”

 It will take some research to find out how secure my information is through LG.   The above setting tweaks could have made me almost happy if it weren't for some software bugs, I presume. Sometimes, when I turn on the tv, it seems to have forgotten some of the values and resets them to factory default. This is very annoying but I am confident that LG will sort that out with a software update eventually.  Where this tv has much improved is in the sound department

 Forget the AI SOUND in the settings, it's rubbish!  The smart features of the tv also have gotten an upgrade. With this newer version of WebOS, I am finally able to use Alexa or Google assistant as well as being able to stream from my Apple and Google devices. It makes things handy since I no longer have to connect any external smart boxes such as Apple TV or my NVIDIA Shield.  Overall, the tv is still better than any LCD LED-lit based tv

 This is very annoying but I am confident that LG will sort that out with a software update eventually.  Where this tv has much improved is in the sound department. Once you find the equalizer settings and tweak them to your liking, you may not want to hook up a soundbar. Of course, the built-in speakers won't replace a giant surround sound system but, with the correct settings, you get a very nice sound with even decent bass

If you watch any episodic tv shows or movies you will want to add something that gives you better sound options.  If you nudge the wheel in the slightest while trying to hit the button, the D-pad cursor is erased and the motion cursor pops up, ready to immediately misclick whatever it happens to be pointing at at the time. Fortunately, the TV has an IR receiver and is fully supported by my 12-year old Harmony remote, so I'll hopefully never need to touch the remote again. - Likely stemming from WebOS's roots as a touch-based interface for phones, some items (such as bringing up series details in the Hulu PP) are brought up by long-pressing the OK button. Even Roku players, which bring minimalism in remote design to an art form, have a dedicated button for such things

An amazing OLED panel makes up for poor design & UI

MY PC GAMING EXPERIENCE :  rtx 3080 ftw ultra intel 10700k strix z490 mobo corsair 150 aio 32gb ram Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable  My biggest hurdle gaming with this tv was setting up 120hz refresh rate. So in the nvidia control panel in the resolution section the 4k 120hz setting was all the way at the bottom resolution scale, kind of hidden, had to scroll all the way down past the lower resolutions to find it. I was getting a crazy amount of tearing until I did this. You could probably mess with all the settings all day until you find what you like

 You have to have the money available at the time of the notice and act quickly. got it at msrp.+ tax. lucky day

pc gaming with rtx 3080

 Why it needs so many software patches, I do not know, I guess I'm glad it continues to receive support but it is concerning / annoying to say the least. Also, for $3k I would hope for a higher refresh rate, at least 240Hz which this TV is not. PC games look ok but could look worlds smoother with a faster response time.

 Furthermore, the speaker unit on the lower half of the screen is bulky and prevents the TV from being place close to a wall, which would take advantage of the thinness.  Second nitpick is the nature of the remote - in an age where most remotes have learned that less buttons are better, this remote has ALL the buttons, a scroll wheel, and a Wii-style waggle-cursor. It looks like something from 2008. Functionally, it's fine, and the waggle-function is growing on me

I have a LG GX in my movie room. The real difference with OLED is in the contrast. I tell people all the time on here that brightness does not equal detail. HDR content sometimes takes a sharp eye to tell the difference and you’re less likely to notice those differences if you leave your tv on dynamic or sports modes (both are always over bright and saturated)

Came from an X900F to CX and the contrast blew me away.  The X900 had decent HDR and good peak brightness, but the difference is night and well, actual daylight.  That said, you really need to have a dark or very dim room to get the most out of OLED, even the newest models will struggle somewhat in a brightly lit room.  As far as streaming content, it depends on where you stream whether they provide 4k/HDR or if you have to pay extra.  I know Netflix made you pay extra to get the additional picture quality.  I usually just rent movies because I don't watch them often enough to justify the expense.

As for motion handling, this one is super subjective.  I can see artifacts / stutter at times (slowly scrolling horizontal text is super obvious) but it's rare enough that it's a non-issue for me.  I will say the LG sets have pretty good control over motion handling, and you can tweak and peak to minimize stutter without inducing the soap opera effect too much.  Really in the eye of the beholder though, it bothers some people a lot, some never even notice.

So yea, I was definitely impressed, and I was coming from a pretty capable set.  Try to go to an actual showroom if you've got one in your area so you can see the picture in better lighting than on display in a brightly lit warehouse.  Hope this helps!

2 days ago I upgraded from a Sanyo POS to my first OLED (LG BX)

The difference alone is night any day is picture quality and the most unexpected quality to come out of everything was the built in sound quality.  I don’t have surround sound In my home but it feels pretty damn close now.

You're using words like 'wow' and 'quality' in the same sentence while not mentioning the changes from a dark plasma to a bright LCD.  To me "quality" is the accurate representation of what the director wanted, and 'wow' is the color/brightness 'pop' that certain brands are famous for.  There is absolutely no 'pop' or eye searing brightness in the HDR or DV specs.  Blade Runner 2049 is a great example: dark, muted colors overall (but well thought out), just an occasional 'obvious' use of color to highlight some aspect of a character/scene, and excellent textures.  But Dead Pool (esp. outdoor scenes) and Forza Horizon 4 are also HDR, very different uses of the HDR tool kit.

I suspect your expectations are personal rather than quantifiable, no offense, it's a personal purchase especially given the cost.

I'd go through some expert reviews on both styles, compare their measurements with your current TV's measurements, and use that to make an informed decision.  There are clear pros and cons to both technologies so make sure you find a few for both LCD and OLED.

I never knew what HDR really does until I bought an OLED. It’s the bright, punchy and balanced picture we always hoped for, added to the amazing quality of OLED.

If you care for PQ, you will see the difference, believe me. The demos in the store are very true, this is what you will get at home. A couple of days ago I was shopping for a new TV (sadly it had to be an LED for our bright living room), none of the TVs came close to the gorgeous C1 that was beside them. 

I settled for a Sony X950h, although it is Sony’s top of the line LED tv, has great colors and HDR capabilities, but the OLED is still the uncontested king of colors and contrast.

For me personally nothing blew me away after moving from LED to OLED. And yes, Dolby Vision tend to look really dark on OLED too. You need to remember one thing, main advantage of OLED are true blacks, but in reality most movies dont even have true blacks, when was the last time you seen something really really black in real life? Almost everything that you as "black" is not "true black" but many different shades of really dark grey. My recommendation is to not buy on hype. If you are really curious, buy one at amazon or somewhere you can easily return, try different movies for 2 weeks, decide if you like how picture looks like and then decide if to keep it or return.

Hello,

I am beginning to look at upgrading our bedroom tv which is a TCL p6017 (2017). Its been a solid tv. I currently have the TCL r635 (QLED) in the living room. It's solid enough as well. Before the r635 I had a Panasonic st60 plasma, input lag was just too much as my kiddo plays switch and we ended up getting rid of it.

I have some concerns and I guess expectations that I worry won't be met by upgrading to an OLED/A8H/CX/etc.

My first concern is that other than the specific YouTube HDR demo's, HDR has never wowed or impressed me in the slightest with its regular streaming content (Disney/netflix/etc.) as well as gaming; Forza Horizon 3 with Dolby Vision looks dark and dull on Xbox One X on my p607. Like last nights episode of Loki is so dim and dull with the p607. In both my 2017 and 2020 TCL tv's HDR has been overly dark even with gamma set at 1.8. SDR content looks fine I guess but I'm just not getting any "wow" from either of these sets on HDR or SDR. At times they can look really good with the right content, usually animated movies with color setting cranked but nothing where I'm like "ok now this is looks amazing!". My question is will an OLED really be that noticeable of a difference in quality based on primarily streaming SDR/HDR? Will it produce that WOW factor everyone talks about or are my expectations too far out of wack? Or should I just go with an u8g and save $500-600?

My second concern is motion/stutter. My p607 in the bedroom is a 60hz tv so stutter wasn't much of an issue. When I got my r635 in the living room I was in for quite a shock with the stutter. Did not expect it to look so terrible on a 120hz tv. The r635 motion adjustments are minimal at best and I'm basically stuck with a bit too much soap opera effect than I'd like and still have stutter. And this worries me about OLED because its said to be even worse. But I've heard Sony has the best motion out of all OLEDs and a lot more adjustments to fine tune the motion.

Any insight to the above would greatly be appreciated from anyone that is coming from or can compare their LED tvs they own or had against their OLED.

<p>I am beginning to look at upgrading our bedroom tv which is a TCL p6017 (2017). Its been a solid tv. I currently have the TCL r635 (QLED) in the living room. It&#39;s solid enough as well. Before the r635 I had a Panasonic st60 plasma, input lag was just too much as my kiddo plays switch and we ended up getting rid of it.</p>

<p>I have some concerns and I guess expectations that I worry won&#39;t be met by upgrading to an OLED/A8H/CX/etc.</p>

<p>My first concern is that other than the specific YouTube HDR demo&#39;s, HDR has never wowed or impressed me in the slightest with its regular streaming content (Disney/netflix/etc.) as well as gaming; Forza Horizon 3 with Dolby Vision looks dark and dull on Xbox One X on my p607. Like last nights episode of Loki is so dim and dull with the p607. In both my 2017 and 2020 TCL tv&#39;s HDR has been overly dark even with gamma set at 1.8. SDR content looks fine I guess but I&#39;m just not getting any &quot;wow&quot; from either of these sets on HDR or SDR. At times they can look really good with the right content, usually animated movies with color setting cranked but nothing where I&#39;m like &quot;ok now this is looks amazing!&quot;. My question is will an OLED really be that noticeable of a difference in quality based on primarily streaming SDR/HDR? Will it produce that WOW factor everyone talks about or are my expectations too far out of wack? Or should I just go with an u8g and save $500-600?</p>

<p>My second concern is motion/stutter. My p607 in the bedroom is a 60hz tv so stutter wasn&#39;t much of an issue. When I got my r635 in the living room I was in for quite a shock with the stutter. Did not expect it to look so terrible on a 120hz tv. The r635 motion adjustments are minimal at best and I&#39;m basically stuck with a bit too much soap opera effect than I&#39;d like and still have stutter. And this worries me about OLED because its said to be even worse. But I&#39;ve heard Sony has the best motion out of all OLEDs and a lot more adjustments to fine tune the motion.</p>

The move from LED to OLED. True WOW factor?

 Sound on this thing was insanely good too. If you don't have an external sound bar or sound system, you will like the sound on this. I may end up getting rid of my crappy Bose 700 that is a pain to keep working.  There are two areas I took stars away
