Probably not unpopular but the triangle grip section on the lamy safari utterly ruins the pen. 

Of course I don’t mean to attack anyone and their passion, I just want to hear some fresh opinions that aren’t heard all that often. I’ll lead the way with three lesser ones:

1. There’s a time and a place for fountain pens. I love all of my pens to death and using them always brightens my day, but for work purposes, most of the shitty paper I’m given can’t even handle anything bigger than an F nib with average ink. Just as much thought and passion went into ballpoint pens and in my opinion, they’re much better all-rounders, so purposefully trashing ballpoints makes this sub looks quite pretentious and elitist.

2. Kaweco makes _the_ ugliest fountain pens I have ever seen in my life, especially the sport. Oh god.

3. Where’s the fun in collecting TWSBI, Lamy, Kaweco or other pens just to have them in different colors? You could explore so many new brands, mechanisms or models with that money.

Again, no hate towards anyone, I just find it fun to hear from some of the people who might not see much representation in the sub.

What are your unpopular fountain pen opinions?

 Like I said, it's a fairly reasonably priced pen. It goes for around twenty-five to thirty dollars. Places like Goulet Pens comm Anderson Pens, Amazon.com I Think it's a little cheaper on Amazon probably closer to twenty five and on Goulet it's around I think Twenty Nine Sixty or something like that

 It uses a cartridge converter filler system, but I thought we just go over the pen. We'll take a little closer look at it I'll talk about some of the features, tell you what I like about it. We'll do a writing sample and at the end I will give you my conclusions as to whether or not this pen is worth having in your arsenal. So let's take a closer look

Review: Lamy Safari Fountain Pen

 For a big pen, these things hold surprisingly little ink when used with a standard converter. I far prefer using a syringe to refill Lamy cartridges. I suspect refilled cartridges hold 2/3 more ink than converters.  2) Lamy clips bag out over time

Lamy makes my all-time favorite fountain pen

 I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib.

Lamy M is too broad and wet for my Muji A5 Notebook, the Kaweco fine nib was a bit too fine. I have some other FP at my disposal but they are not really a good EDC for me, the nib is too flexible (Noodler Ahab, Montblanc 348). I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib

 Just these little, uh, scuff marks where it's gotten a little rough from wearing against something. But overall, I think this pen wears pretty dang well. I don't think that there are any huge weaknesses as far as longevity. I think that this is a good pen and it will be a good pen for a long time

 this came out and the violet. This is 2020, one of the 2020 special editions, so both really pretty pens. I don't care so much for the gloss finish on a lot of the standard Lamy Safaris, but a lot of their special editions have this matte finish and I think that this finish is really nice. I like the feel of it, I like the look of it, and so yeah, that's why I have these too

Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Review: Longevity, Design, and Writing Sample

 While this is obvious to me, only someone paying close attention would notice.  5) Bulky. Not something you would think of when shopping for your fountain pen, but this Lamy does not fit into the compartmentalized pen holders in all of my briefcases. Due to the large body and squared off ends (as opposed to the traditional "torpedo" shape), it can be akward getting this pen into the compartments when I am in a rush

Excellent low key entry level pen

 Personally this bothers me at 40 bucks a pop plus inks and cartridges which will not stay lubricated forever thank goodness they are only a buck for the cartridges. The inks can be quite expensive. Last a long time but expensive to build a color library if inks for calligraphy. With the way they need ink as often as they do, they are a pain in the rear if you write or draw with them

 I would not pay that. Fortunately I was able to buy it from Appelboom last year for significantly cheaper.

Ok, I own both pens. Both with fine nibs. I got my Lamy in April 2019 and my Visconti in February 2020. I’ve used both of them a lot.

The Visconti was my grail pen. I know I’m not the only one on this sub. There’s something about the high price point, volcano body, the looks. Everything made me want to get this pen. I thought it would be part art piece and part everyday writing instrument. 

It’s a year later and I’m really thinking of selling my Visconti. Expectations didn’t live up to the hype. Most of the things I liked the most about the pen are accomplished with the Lamy 2000. I liked the idea that the Visconti’s body was warm and absorbed sweat and wouldn’t slip, etc. The Makrolon body of the Lamy 2000 is really pretty close to the Visconti. The hook-lock pen cap of the Visconti? Yup, that’s super cool and I can uncap the pen quickly for note-taking. Lamy 2000 is just as effective. Smooth nib? They both have it.

I found out after using both pens that the Visconti is far too heavy for me. 

Some of the major differences are the pen's looks (I think they both look great but in different ways) and the way the nibs write. The Visconti definitely has a specific feel to it. But I definitely don’t think it’s worth over 3 times the price of the Lamy.

I regret the days I spent lusting over the pen, with a lot of FOMO from this sub. After the honeymoon period for both pens, I can say that I get the same amount of joy from both and one of them is a lot more reasonably priced.

Hot take: The Visconti Homo Sapiens is too expensive. Just get a Lamy 2000

 However, that hook lock system does not agree with my grip, I hold too far back and they are not comfortable between my fingers for any period of time. Also, that same system mixed with the material just always felt like I was opening a lock made of sand and stone.

What is that one pen that is constantly sitting on the bench because of only one (or two) non deal breaker flaws but ones that you cannot ignore ? For me it's the Regatta. I love that pen, it writes well, love the magnet closing and opening but ugh that step down .... and that's why at the time of the writing of this post, it sits forlornly on my table staring at me with it's puppy eyes behind those rose gold rims.

Kid ya got the gifts but ...

Pens: I was just gifted a Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age and am thrilled with it. It opened my brain to all of their other pens. I have it in my brain that I want to look for a London Fog that was LE a few years ago. A TWSBI 580 Smoke Rose Gold II is still on my list also

First and foremost this is an amazing pen. Tactile, well-made, excellent high powered vacuum filling system and it writes effortlessly. This is a piece you can easily use as an everyday pen or keep as an heirloom. It will last for generations
