Lamy Safari vs Platinum Plaisir

Probably not unpopular but the triangle grip section on the lamy safari utterly ruins the pen.

The grip section, though, is the same plastic as a Preppy and is comfortable to hold. If you like the Preppy and don't want to use it as an eyedropper, this will give you the same pen hopefully without the danger of plastic cracking.

I love TWSBIs the most but the first FP I ever bought was a Platinum Plaisir, because I read that it'll still write even if you leave it neglected for weeks to months. It's been my experience that this is true, and I've never had any stop/start issues with them, even in long writing. They write a bit dry, but don't stop on me, and they make a nice fine line. For a big pen, these things hold surprisingly little ink when used with a standard converter. I far prefer using a syringe to refill Lamy cartridges. I suspect refilled cartridges hold 2/3 more ink than converters. 2) Lamy clips bag out over time

5, so if your not as sensitive to writing you probably won't notice it. Oh, This pen does not take International size ink cartridge, at least not the one Monteverde makes. Even though I post the question to vendor and they told me it will take international size cartridge. I bought a few different color ink with International size cartridge only to find out that the opening is too small and it won't fit in this pen, I was disappointed, hence only 4 stars

Lamy M is too broad and wet for my Muji A5 Notebook, the Kaweco fine nib was a bit too fine. I have some other FP at my disposal but they are not really a good EDC for me, the nib is too flexible (Noodler Ahab, Montblanc 348). I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib

1 - Plaisir 1) Nib: Both are Japanese stainless steel nib, however, the metropolitan fine is actually finer than the Plaisir fine. Why? I don't know. Therefore, I can't definitively say one write smoother than the other because of the size difference. The nib on metropolitan is slightly longer and wider than the Plaisir

Anyway, let's look at the design of this pen, how it's put together. We'll do a writing sample, and then we'll talk about the longevity sort of stuff....

I always recommend Lamy for their solid build quality and bc. their cartridges/converters/inks are easy to get where I live, but sadly the QC on their nibs has gone down recently in terms of how fine/consistent they write, so the line width might not be as promised. That said I still think that a Lamy can be a good beginner option, especially because almost all their nibs are interchangeable. (And the ABS plastic on the safari pens can stand a lot of abuse

While this is obvious to me, only someone paying close attention would notice. 5) Bulky. Not something you would think of when shopping for your fountain pen, but this Lamy does not fit into the compartmentalized pen holders in all of my briefcases. Due to the large body and squared off ends (as opposed to the traditional "torpedo" shape), it can be akward getting this pen into the compartments when I am in a rush

I really like this pen! The ink flow is wonderful. The reason why it is getting a 4 star and not 5, may be subjective, but the pen is a bit light in feeling for me. I used it for a whole week before I got used to the weight and now it is okay, but I wish it would have been an instant love like my Pilot Metropolitan or Lamy Safari was. Would I buy another one? Personally this bothers me at 40 bucks a pop plus inks and cartridges which will not stay lubricated forever thank goodness they are only a buck for the cartridges. The inks can be quite expensive. Last a long time but expensive to build a color library if inks for calligraphy. With the way they need ink as often as they do, they are a pain in the rear if you write or draw with them

ETA, by entry level luxury, I just mean I don’t want to exceed $300. So the best pen I can get in that price range before I decide if I want to spend even more.
