A "Premium" E-Book Reader?  Kobo's Aura ONE

 Overdrive is super convenient on WiFi - I'll typically pick out books on my phone for the better interface, then log in on the Kobo for a quick sync.  My main complaint is how slow an unresponsive it can be, especially if you've got a 1,000+ page book loaded. It can take half a second or longer to register a page turn. I also don't like the long boot up with a huge Wal Mart logo, but that's a tiny quality-of-life thing that doesn't matter much

Slow, but great ereader with Overdrive

 It has probably the best front-lit experience that Coppo has ever done as well as the new feature, which changes, uh, you know, the screen and eliminates blue light. So this e-reader could do it all as well as it's giant. So if you're reading manga, if you're reading PDF files, if you're reading eBooks, you have more screen real estate to be able to fit more text on a page. We'd like to hear your thoughts on our review

 It's responsive based on your last tasks. So you can see that we've added some books here. We've opened some books, some PDF files. And so every task you do, the previous tasks are replaced and this is meant to function as shortcuts

Kobo Aura One Review

 It's worth mentioning that its 300ppi resolution is slightly sharper than Kobo's last-gen e-readers, which were 265ppi.

Battery life is great. After reading Sylvain Neuvel's new "Only Human" and volume 6 of the manga "Yotsuba," I still had more than half the battery to go.

Even if you don't borrow from libraries, this is a lovely device. The Clara HD is the e-reader boiled down to the essentials: a sharp screen in an easy-to-hold body with long battery life and a comforting, color-changing front light. As long as you don't have an existing library of Amazon books, this is a better buy than the Paperwhite.

 I plugged it into the charger for more than a day and it wouldn't charge! I found out that yes, the battery can be replaced but it needs more sophisticated electronics skills than I possess. I'm glad that I was able to use it for the time I had it, but I think it should have lasted more than two years! Or at least they should make the battery replaceable., or provide a replacement service. I would not buy one of these again

 Heads up, it's not recommended to buy from the Good Ereader store, they have famously bad customer service, and it's not really recommended to buy from [onyxboox.com](https://onyxboox.com) either, they have Boox devices with unusual firmware which causes problems for people when updates are pushed from the actual Chinese manufacturers.

Colour is indeed still in its infancy (last I checked: 4096 colours, a bit washed out, and 100 ppi). If you really want colour, a traditional tablet will be much better (which kinda defeats the purposes). Or maybe the [TCL NXTPAPER](https://www.tcl.com/global/en/tablets/tclnxtpaper-mid/landing.html) once it comes out -- IDK, seems like vapourware.

Your two main choices for screen sizes are going to be 7.8/8 inches, or 10-ish inches. The vast majority of these readers will have lighting (and even warm lighting) capabilities, so no need to worry about that. 

Scribd/other reading apps can be installed if you get an Android-based reader (which is most of these 8+ inch ones). Of course, you could also install Reddit/Twitter on them, so... don't do that?

Onyx Nova 3 goes for $330-ish ($420-ish with colour). 7.8 inch screen. Note3 is another $200 or so, 10.3 inches.

Cheaper alternative would be the Boyue Likebook series, with the Likebook P78 going for around $220. Runs an older version of Android, though, and might feel a bit more sluggish.

I've been trying to get more into reading, as I am a big fan of the Halo franchise and really wanted to read the books. I recently subscribed to Scribd as they have pretty much all the books on there, as well as a plethora of other books and audiobooks that I am interested in. I am open to switching platforms if there is another platform with the Halo books, but I haven't found one yet (I haven't looked hard).

However, reading on my phone, especially at night, has not been productive. I often end up switching to a different app (reddit, twitter, etc.), and distracting myself instead of focusing. I want a device that is solely dedicated to reading so I can compartmentalize reading away from my "always connected" device.

What I am looking for is the following features  
\-eInk display. I want to be able to read it like it is a regular book  
\-Some sort of lighting. It doesn't need to be bright, but I often read in the dark as its more immersive for me. I just need something so I can see the words  
\-Can use scribd, and potentially other apps for reading. As I said, I'm up for other subscription options that aren't scribd, but I'm reading specifically for Halo. Having more apps to access more books would just be nice overall so I can keep the reading streak alive

Nice to have features would be  
\-Color display option. I read comics, and I've heard some of these displays are getting really good color options, so I'd be interested in seeing this.   
\-PDF reading capabilities. Sometimes I get books in PDF form (my therapist recently sent me one), and I've very much like a better space to read these on rather than my phone or PC

Help finding an ereader that fits me

 How is it possible that books won't turn work/page turn on Onyx's own native apps? I'll admit that I am completely clueless as to how all of the reviewers are loading, opening, and marking-up PDFs with a native app. I had to download XODO to mark-up/underline with the stylus. Trying to open PDFS on the Boox natively results in not being able to turn pages as well. Adobe Acorbat works fine, but you have to underline, there isn't really a highlighting function

Wanted to Love This Device, but I Can't

Unlike Kindles, the Note Air 2 has a speaker and a microphone. The tablet lacks a headphone jack&mdash;the whole thing is slimmer than a 3.5mm plug&mdash;but you can connect Bluetooth headphones to it. A power button and a USB-C port round out the exterior features

 The app caught up eventually, but the experience is still a little disconcerting. I spoke to Onyx about this issue and I'm confident it is going to fix this lag with a software update that extends the buffer.

Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Review

 Period.  And the battery life. Hours and hours and hours of battery life. Days in fact

 Using Googledocs, the text is beautifully readable and especially so in the sun.  First and foremost, I bought this for the E-Ink screen. I did not and do not expect it, in terms of refresh rate, to behave like your typical tablet. Give it another several years and maybe they'll get there, but if you're buying this tablet, you're getting it for the E-Ink technology

First Impressions

 I couldn't get the brightness and tint to a level that didn't hurt my eyes and lead to headaches. I found it much better to just use dark mode on my Samsung Android tablet instead. Hopefully the technology will improve over the years.

 There are also large borders around displayed book, which takes up valuable screen space. I found it frustrating to use at night to read anything.
