What pen brands would you, and wouldn't recommend to a beginner?

 Genuinely amazing for the price, and you get, at least when I bought mine, a pack of 5 ink cartridges AND a converter for using bottles ink in the future (Cheap bottled ink like Parker Quink is the most economical way to fill a fountain pen). On AliExpress a Jinhao 992 is a couple of pounds including shipping, but shipping is slow to be fair.

Cheap fountain pen knockoffs worth the try

TWSBI Eco "clone" (can we call all piston fillers TWSBI Eco clones? lol) it has a good ink flow (sometimes it isn't good), The nib is ok, it is a Lamy like nib but I was unable to remove it because it seems to be glued into the feed... lol Mine leaked a couple of times till it stopped by itself

This pen is heavy, it is almost the same as X750 but it has a tripod section. The ink flow is pretty good. I can't tell anything about the original nib because I bought with a fude nib instead. It should be the same price of the x750

Super budget fountain pen that still works great?

Wing Sung 601: $15 vac filler, hooded nib, nail of a fine nib.  Good sort of re-pop of the classic Parker 51. Holds ink for days. Good build

Elite - this name is a monument. Probably, the most famous one is "Elite S". In around 1970, "Elite S" became very popular with the TV commercial. "Happa Fumi Fumi"... this marvelous word is it. Of course, function based on the concept is wonderful. "Elite 95s" is inherited the gene. 

Features - "make sense" 
The most common feature is the length. Almost all, this series are short. The length is controllable - this thought is very reasonable. When you don't use, it is pocketable. For this purpose, this pen adapt "spigot joint" mechanism. Not need to turn, also not sound. And the shape is excellent. Especially the streamline shape of nib is very cool. This beautiful streamline - it's like the future vehicle. This black body with gold accent remind limousine. Exclusive driver is you. Of course, the space you stop is problem. Please continue to run, run, run (When you write, length@is long...very, very).

14K, streamline. Streamline shape is very beautiful. Of course, there is not only beauty but also usefulness. The moderate hardness can endure long time writing. And moderate softness tell characteristic repulsion. Good balance. 
Converter is sold separately. Suitable is "CON-20 " / products of PILOT.

 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

Next level (under $100) - Pilot Elite 95s - I have both F and EF - superb in every way. Moderate (under $150) - Pilot Custom Heritage 92 - does everything well. A step up (under $300) - Pilot Custom 823 - great nib, the filling system, hard to beat this pen at any price. Pricey (up to $700 or so) - Pelikan Souverän M1000 Green - beautiful pen, fabulous nib

 There’s a small bit of feedback, but overall this is one of the smoothest fines in my collection. I am in love.

 I never post my pen caps. This pen is very compact and will easily fit into vest pockets or shirt pockets. It is very fine quality and very lightweight. It is one of the silkiest writing pens I have used and rivals pens costing almost a grand
