 I did manage to fix the JBL by changing the default bass from level 3 to 2, but as noted above, making that adjustment wasn't as easy as pressing a volume button.&nbsp;Should you buy it?Most of my hesitation about recommending the Bar 5.0 MultiBeam comes down to the controls. The remote is counterintuitive in the way it makes adjustments that are necessary to get the best sound

This will bring up a readout that says “LVL 3” (or whatever level you have it on at the time), and from there you can use the volume up or down button to change it.

The default “Smart Mode” is brilliant when it works, but limiting when it doesn’t. There should be other easily selectable sound profiles that you can choose. As it is, all you can is temporarily turn off the Smart Mode (it turns itself back on by default when the soundbar goes into standby), and when it is turned off, it sounds merely “okay.” You can also adjust the bass level, and there is an ATMOS button that gives an even broader soundstage—works okay for loud movies (action and sci-fi), but destroys dialogue on regular programming

As for setup, the ARC connection with my TV (Sony Bravia) works perfectly—TV recognizes the bar, turns it on, and even my Roku remote controls the volume. I had a bit of trouble with the Chromecast setup, as the Google Home app would not see the bar, but the Alexa app did see it, and once I used that to get it on my wi-fi, the Chromecast worked as well. Both Alexa and Chromecast work well, and are solid.

 I initially thought this feature was broken, as I could not get it to work, but what I finally figured out is that what you need to do is hold the mute button for EXACTLY FOUR seconds—no more, no less—then hit the volume up button. If you hit the volume up button, and the volume goes up, then you missed the timing, and have to try again. Truly annoying—none of the other adjustments are this finicky, and this seems like the adjustment you would want to make the most.

- BASS: There are 5 bass levels. The default is 3. No sound profiles!

I have a JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam and the display is constantly scrolling text reading: CHROMECAST, AIRPLAY READY

  Bluetooth: Works great! This was a nice feature that my old system did not have. I can connect my phone directly to the speaker with ease.  Sound: This is where I was a little surprised. I always liked the audio of my old mini system, but I still expected this to be an upgrade; it was in some ways, maybe not in others

 Now, the bass is CLEARLY an upgrade - it's pretty clean and punchy for such a small package. Not the same as a big old dedicated sub, but nice! On the other hand..

  Look: Looks nice! Very clean/modern. LCD display is inobtrusive yet functional. I guess I would have appreciated a wider LCD screen, so there was less scrolling with longer messages. I also like the streamlined remote

For my main TV, I had been using an old Onkyo mini receiver, with DaytonB652 bookshelf speakers. I really liked the sound of this system, but it did make for a pretty cluttered TV stand.  This has been unplugged and unused since the first use after seeing a wifi logo on my screen. I was sooo eager for this to come in too, what a disappointment. This is a hard “NOPE!” for me.

 Luckily I know a few things, to where i was able to recognize thats not the smartest way to connect even tho i told these things to NOT activate, they still did, and i was bummed to find out this solo public network was being advertised and broadcasted for well over an hour. 😳😒😞  its a great speaker, that sounds great. Given the price of this however, brings the overall rating for me waaaay down, considering the speaker i got a year ago retail valued at a fraction of this, and sounds almost the same, with no true need to be connected to wifi or Bluetooth should you not have those or know how to use them, or simply don’t want them makes this speaker look and proven to be, way over priced. The other one has a much safer Simple plug and play, option, the way a speaker should be

Value for the money and great bass

 This sound bar has 5 speakers in total including a center speaker and two rear speakers, this is why you don't get the low dialog volume and random loud noises issue. This dynamic sound issue is caused when a movie has the appropriate audio for a multiple speaker surround sound but has to merge the audio to the two available speakers, this causes two speakers to play the role of center and rear audio causing the volume mess. That issue can also be usually fixed by switching the audio from 5.1 to stereo in the audio settings while watching a movie in most streaming services

 (After the soundbar displays the current input, it will display what audio format it’s set to. If it shows Dolby then you have the correct settings)  Original review- The soundbar itself is really well made pretty much like anything else JBL makes, they have a really good design team. The bar is smaller than i expected at about 2.3 feet it also doesent weigh much letting it mount safely with the included drywall hardware if you can't align it with studs

  Sound- The sound of the bar is pretty interesting, it uses four passive radiators so the bass is really clean and loud for the size. Passive radiators are basically dummy speakers with a foam surround and a flat dome, they are installed on sealed boxes and act as a tuning port ( the hole on speaker boxes where air comes out ) The difference is that passive radiators absorb the air pressure produced by the powered speakers letting the powered speaker achieve a louder sound with less movement, the passive radiators also reduce the shaking of the speaker enclosure so it doesent vibrate around a flat surface or rattle.  Surround- The bar uses a multi beam system to emulate a multi channel surround positioning. The bar itself has five powered speakers in total, a left, center, right also a rear left and rear right speakers, the rear speakers are on the side of the soundbar and are the ones that utilize the multibeam feature

 PCM is pretty much a two channel format so everything I was playing was being downsampled to two channels. I instead set the audio to “best available” and WOW did the sound open up. The soundbar display now shows Dolby and what Dolby version it’s currently using. Fire stick can’t play atmos so I’m not sure how much more the difference would be but now that it plays Dolby + I can appreciate the multi beam tech

Passive radiators are almost magic...

 -The mid-range is probably where this suffers a bit as at medium to higher volumes you can hear the overall detail strain a bit. -The lower end (bass) even though there is no sub is decent. You won't get the visceral effects of rumbling during action movies, but this soundbar will get LOUD. Impressively so -For music I used Bluetooth from my iPhone via Amazon Music HD as well as Spotify

 What it creates is a more visceral viewing experience where the sound is enveloping you more and sounds more full. They did a great job recreating what this would sound like out of one "box." -The voice on this is really quite good and provides sufficient detail and depth with a bit of weight as well. None of that "Tinny" sound like from TV speakers

 It comes with mounting brackets, remote, power cord and HDMI cable. The finish is a matte black with a modern look that visually would fit in to any space. Check the dimensions of the unit to ensure it is fit for your space, but it is a good size. Not too small and not too big

Nice looking, solid value and big sound

I was surprised! The smart mode actually sounds very good, it widens the sound stage, and you actually feel the surround sound effect. For my room, I actually get the bouncing effect from the side firing tweeters pretty well, nevertheless, sound stage is pretty wide, and you won’t feel like listening to a 2.1 channel sound.

People complain that there are no adjustment options, to be honest you don’t need any! Bass can be adjusted from 1-5, and that’s all you need. The eq settings are nicely tuned from factory and to be very honest, I don’t feel like I have to make any changes.

The sound bar has 5 front firing full range drivers, no tweeter pairs, but I was surprised: there was good and clear treble in the sound and midrange was also very manageable (clear). Dialogues are nice and clear and clearly seems like it comes from the center driver (mimicking the center channel), even at Smart mode ON.

If you're looking for an affordable bar with lots of thump and punch in the bass, check out the Vizio V Series V21-H8. It's a 2.1 setup like the Samsung HW-A550, but its dedicated subwoofer can reproduce a more extended low-bass, making it a solid choice for listening to bass-heavy music. There's even a subwoofer level control that lets you adjust how loud the subwoofer gets.

Its default sound profile is quite bass-heavy, so you feel the rumble in bass-heavy genres like hip-hop and EDM. The mids are still quite balanced, so dialogue in TV shows is clear and detailed. You also have some options available to help customize its performance, including bass and treble adjustments and a dialogue enhancement mode.

It lacks Atmos support, and its surround sound performance isn't the most impressive. You won't find a full graphic EQ, limiting your ability to adjust its sound, especially in the mid-range. Still, if you want a budget-friendly bar with a boomy bass, it's a good pick.

While the very low price of the Vizio V-Series 2.1 Home Theater Sound Bar V21-H8 had us momentarily questioning our ears, we can assure you this soundbar sounds better than several more expensive competitors, while offering a dearth of useful features and presets. There is a powerful subwoofer that Vizio recommends placing next to or behind the audience, where increased proximity to the rumbly bass makes for an exciting experience. Dialogue enhancement and night mode also make for a great viewing experience at lower volumes.
Though this model is solid for the price point, it can't hold a candle to the higher-end model in terms of overall sound quality. While powerful, the bass can sound muddy and overwhelm the rest of the mix. When we did turn the bass down, the weak mids and sometimes harsh treble became more apparent. This isn't too much of a problem when watching action films at high volumes, but it makes for a poor experience when using the soundbar to listen to music. Still, this soundbar is a monumental improvement over any built-in TV speakers, and if your bank account can't absorb a high-end sound system to pair with your newly acquired flat screen, the Vizio V-Series 2.1 Home Theater Sound Bar is a very solid option.
