 Hello and welcome to Drummer's Review. I'm Matt and in this video we're going to be taking

 a look at a selection of PiSTY 2002 cymbals. As one of the Swiss company's most recognisable

 and much loved ranges of cymbals, the 2002 series need very little introduction to a

 great many players. This year they celebrate their 50th anniversary of their launch in

 1971 and with a host of the world's top drummers using these models as their go-to

 instrument of choice, we were keen to put them under the Drummer's Review microscope.

 The selection we have here today comes supplied as a bonus box set containing a pair of 14-inch

 sound edge hi-hats, 16 and 18-inch classic crashes and a 20-inch ride. All are constructed

 from the CUSN8 bronze which PiSTY refer to as their 2002 bronze and feature tight bands

 of lathing and subtle hammering throughout. Also of note is the crimped edge of the bottom

 hi-hat cymbal which allows the air to escape quicker. Finishing things off, each of the

 cymbals display the red 2002 PiSTY stamp standing proudly from their shiny bronze finish. This

 particular box set has a UK retail price of £939. Let's take a closer listen before coming

 Out of the box and on the stands, these cymbals have an

 provides a satisfying sizzle while fully open barks give them a fresh funky vibe. The 16

 and 18-inch crashes work well as a pair with an obvious pitch difference but a common overall

 tone with regards to voice and sustain. Both have very pleasing overtones that in no way

 overpower the instruments but enhance the musicality and richness they provide. Worthy

 of note is that unlike some of the other 16-inch crashes we've reviewed, this particular model

 sounds full and warm despite its relatively high pitch. The 20-inch ride displays many

 of the same qualities as the rest of the selection, giving a crisp, clear, clean tone when played

 quietly but opening up with a much beefier sound when laid into a little bit more. Like

 the crashes, it has a healthy amount of wash which rather than overpowering the cymbals

 clarity actually enhances the overall sound produced. Crashing on the edge gives a loud

 full note while playing on the bell gives a well projected clean note that we're confident

 would cut through in any mix. As a set all of these cymbals seem perfectly matched and

 all complement each other well making for a complete set straight out of the box. Construction

 wise these cymbals are about as perfectly made as you can get with each having a lustrous

 sheen and uniform lathering and hammer marks across the selection. Although the 2002 range

 Peisty's 2002 range dates back to the early 1970s, when rock drummers needed more powerful cymbals in order to be able to compete with the high and increasing volume of rock music at the time. New for 2019, Peisty have launched these Extreme Crashes, which are designed to take things even further with more brightness and more volume as well as more durability. The Extreme Crashes are handmade out of B8 bronze like the rest of the 2002 range, and they're available in 18", 19", and 20-inch sizes, all of which we have here today for review. Pricing-wise, the 18-inch lists at £305, the 19-inch at £330, while the 20-inch comes in at £354, though we have seen online retailers selling for a fair bit cheaper than this

 At the same time, they've got enough variation in tone and pitch to be easily distinguishable. The 19-inch stood out to us as probably the most balanced of the bunch, where the 18-inch is perhaps a little bit too high-pitched to work as a main crash, though it would make a good secondary crash for fast accents, while the low voice of the 20-inch creates a huge wash of energy that doesn't necessarily cut through the mix all that well. Obviously these aren't subtle, pretty or versatile sounding cymbals, and in the studio you might find that the extra volume actually creates more problems than it solves, but for their intended use of cutting through loud amplified instruments in a live context, they could be just the ticket. While these are quite pricey crashes, one major aspect to bear in mind is the advertised durability, which could be a huge bonus for players who are used to regularly destroying crashes and could drive up their value for money once you factor in the cost of buying replacement cymbals over time

 Obviously these aren't subtle, pretty or versatile sounding cymbals, and in the studio you might find that the extra volume actually creates more problems than it solves, but for their intended use of cutting through loud amplified instruments in a live context, they could be just the ticket. While these are quite pricey crashes, one major aspect to bear in mind is the advertised durability, which could be a huge bonus for players who are used to regularly destroying crashes and could drive up their value for money once you factor in the cost of buying replacement cymbals over time. With that said, I think you'd have to be a fan of the 2002 sound to consider going for these crashes, because there are some really loud offerings from other major manufacturers that are made out of B20 and or hand-hammered and come in at around a similar price or even cheaper. Overall, we're feeling a little bit conflicted about these cymbals, to be honest, so we'd love to know what you think
